Today we’d like to introduce you to Keosha Thomas.
Hi Keosha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey began at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications. It was at MTSU that I discovered how my strengths and talents intersected across journalism, storytelling, the arts and fashion.
During college, I immersed myself in opportunities that allowed me to develop both professionally and creatively. I produced a television show, launched a newsletter through my sorority, held leadership positions with the National Association of Black Journalists and a minority publication, and wrote for MTSU’s student newspaper, Sidelines. Through my journalism work, I covered fashion, music, entertainment and sports, which gave me valuable experience in storytelling, interviewing, research and understanding different audiences.
My creative side also grew through my involvement with MTSU’s Dance Club. I designed and sewed outfits for my dance group, giving me an opportunity to combine fashion, craftsmanship and visual storytelling. Those experiences taught me that storytelling extends far beyond the written word, it can be communicated through media, fashion, design, culture and community.
Those experiences ultimately helped shape the vision behind TallGirlsMatter. I began to recognize an opportunity to use my background in journalism, media, fashion and storytelling to create a platform where tall women could see themselves represented, connected and celebrated. What started from a passion for storytelling and community evolved into TallGirlsMatter and later helped lay the foundation for my work as co-founder of TGM Media Co to utilize all my skillsets.
Today, I bring those experiences together as an entrepreneur and CEO, using media, storytelling and business to create opportunities, elevate voices and build meaningful platforms. My journey from a Mass Communications student at MTSU to building TallGirlsMatter and co-founding TGM Media Co. has taught me that the different parts of my career were never separate paths, they were building blocks for the work I was ultimately meant to do.
At the core of everything I do is the belief that representation matters, stories have the power to create change, and there is an opportunity to turn an idea into a movement when you are willing to build it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, and I think that is an important part of any entrepreneur’s story. There have been plenty of challenges, difficult seasons and moments when I had to make tough decisions, but I have learned to view those experiences as opportunities for growth.
There is a saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” and I have learned to live by that philosophy. People will show you who they are, and sometimes that experience is positive and sometimes it is painful. Either way, I have learned to receive the lesson, take what I can from it and continue to grow.
As a creative and fearless leader, I have also learned that there will be good, bad and even ugly moments. Entrepreneurship requires you to invest in yourself, believe in your vision and understand that not everyone will see what you see in the beginning. You have to be willing to keep moving forward even when the path is uncertain.
My faith in God has been a constant source of strength throughout that journey. I have learned the importance of standing tall in who I am, knowing my value and remaining grounded in my purpose. Just as importantly, I have learned that pouring into yourself is not selfish — it is necessary. You cannot continue to pour into your business, your team, your community and the people around you if you are not also making time to pour into yourself.
The challenges have shaped me as a leader. They have made me more resilient, more discerning and more intentional about the people and opportunities I allow into my life. I would not change every difficult moment because many of those moments helped prepare me for where I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Tallgirlsmatter / TGM Media?
Talgirlsmatter is a global community created to connect, empower and celebrate women who are 5 feet, 9 inches and taller. What began as a platform centered on representation and community has grown into a multifaceted brand that provides resources, experiences and opportunities designed specifically for tall women.
Through Tallgirlsmatter, we help women navigate some of the unique experiences that come with being tall. We provide resources on where to shop for clothing and products that meet the needs of taller women, while also offering our own TGM Collection clothing line. We create opportunities for connection through Tall Girl Meetups around the world, community events, travel experiences, sporting events and concerts. We also use our platform to highlight and spotlight members of the tall community, while creating opportunities to mentor, volunteer and give back.
One of the experiences I am particularly proud of is our TGM Cruise. In July, we hosted our second annual TGM Cruise, bringing members of our community together to build relationships, create memories and experience the power of connection beyond social media. Seeing women from different backgrounds come together and realize they are part of something bigger than themselves is one of the most rewarding aspects of building this brand.
What sets Tallgirlsmatter, apart is that we are more than a social media platform or clothing brand. We are building a global community and creating experiences around a shared identity that has historically been underserved and underrepresented. Our goal is to make tall women feel seen, represented, connected and confident while creating spaces where they can authentically be themselves.
In addition to Tallgirlsmatter, I am proud to serve as co-founder of TGM Media, a media and communications company that helps individuals, brands and organizations strategically tell their stories and build their presence. Our services include branding, public relations, marketing, public speaking, crisis management and strategic communications. We are super excited about this as well Founder Sheena Avery Adams and I launched a TV series on Roku as well titled, “Passports and Press.”
Together, Tallgirlsmatter and TGM Media represent two sides of my professional vision: building a community-driven brand while using media, communications and storytelling to help others build theirs. I am most proud of creating businesses that are rooted in representation, connection and opportunity.
I want readers to know that Tallgirlsmatter not simply about being tall. It is about creating a sense of belonging and showing women that there is power in standing tall, literally and figuratively. Our vision is to continue growing that community globally while expanding the experiences, resources and opportunities we provide to tall women everywhere.
How do you think about happiness?
Happiness, to me, comes from within. I was taught from an early age to love the skin I am in, and I believe that when you genuinely love and accept yourself, that happiness naturally exudes into every area of your life.
One of my greatest sources of happiness is being a mother to my beautiful daughter, Keeley Thomas. Watching her blossom into the person she is becoming is one of my greatest joys. Seeing her excel academically, personally and athletically particularly as she continues to grow in her volleyball career, makes me incredibly proud. I love watching her discover who she is and become her own beautiful mosaic right before my eyes.
I am also grateful for my parents, who have played such an important role in shaping the woman and leader I am today. My family, my TGM community and friends, my besties, my sorors, my church family, my special person and my dog, Starr, all bring joy and meaning to my life in different ways.
I am happiest when I am doing the things I love, surrounded by positive energy and people who genuinely support, inspire and encourage me. I also find tremendous joy in building Tallgirlsmatter and creating experiences that allow women to connect, celebrate themselves and know that they are not alone.
Ultimately, what makes me happiest is knowing that the work I am doing today can help create a stronger, more connected and more confident community for the tall generations coming behind us and pass on to my daughter. If I can use my life, my experiences and my platform to inspire another woman or girl to stand tall, love herself and believe in what is possible, that is happiness to me.
