Community Highlights: Meet Kristen Nicholson of Urban Sweat, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Nicholson.

Hi Kristen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve spent 22 years in the healthcare industry-leading national sales teams in radiology, building clinically integrated networks for a large hospital system nationally, and leading global account management teams – to support US-based healthcare companies. In 2020, I could think about what was important to me. I was burned out and knew there had to be a better way. After many years of being obsessed with infrared sauna use and learning more about optimizing my health, I decided that the time was right to open my studio to share this with our community.

I began to study the world of mitochondrial health and longevity. Although 2020 was devastating to so many, and many still suffer the effects of loss, illness, and challenges in mental health, it allowed me to understand what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Immunity has become more important than ever before, and there are things that we can do to support that. Exercise, meditation, nourishing our bodies with nutrient-rich foods, infrared sauna, contrast therapy, and red light therapy are ways that I support my mental health and immunity.

I knew that The Nations was the perfect spot for a studio, and I have been amazed every day by this community. From those that travel to see us to those within walking distance and the community of the most amazing business owners, I have loved every second of being open the past 5 months!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have worked for large corporations and start-ups during my healthcare career but always had a scrappy, entrepreneurial spirit. After finally deciding to leap, I have continued to learn every single day. There certainly have not been two days that are the same, and I love that! A podcast that I love to listen to always reminds you that ‘ready’ is not a feeling but a decision, and it’s okay to make mistakes.

I have learned a lot re: commercial real estate, construction, and accounting. It has been an opportunity to learn my strengths and weaknesses and constantly remind me that you cannot control everything. My advice to anyone getting started is not to be afraid to outsource things that aren’t your strengths, take the help when it’s offered and be patient. With the boom in construction and the demand for materials, timelines were pushed, but luckily I worked with an amazing contractor.

I have the most amazing guests to the studio, and I legit ugly cry daily hearing stories of how we’ve helped people feel better, sleep better, etc. I never expected that the modalities the studio offers would impact many in the ways it has.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
