Community Highlights: Meet Laura Martin of Equine Social

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Martin.

Hi Laura, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi! My name is Laura Martin. I’m a wine lover from California! With a passion for charcuterie and horses and thought why not put all these passions together! We built a beautiful horse barn shortly after moving and that’s my tasting room. People from all over get to enjoy local wine and charcuterie all while accompanied by our beautiful horses. All tastings come with carrots to feed and interact with the horses. I’m so blessed to share this wonderful experience!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think starting out with any business you’re going to have struggles but it’s all a learning process. My struggles was getting a barn built in the middle of winter. It ended up being a lot longer process than we had planned. Also getting my name out there, I only used social media and word of mouth to get my bookings. It was a lot harder than I thought and I still have those struggles now and then.

As you know, we’re big fans of Equine Social. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Equine Social offers a very unique private wine tasting experience. An experience like no other. Being a girl from California I have done a lot of wine tasting but I have never seen a tasting in a horse barn where you can feed and interact with the horses. And add the most beautiful custom charcuterie boards! And carrots cannot forget the carrots! 🥕

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
This experience is really about the people and the horses. I’ve had people who aren’t really horse people leave with a whole new view on horses. And it’s about friends! I have made so many friends. People who have already booked for a second time before even leaving and keep in touch!
