Community Highlights: Meet Laura Pasyanos of Southern Doula Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Pasyanos.

Laura, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Life is loud and drowns out our inner reflection and we get caught up in the day-to-day moments and never take the time to listen. Well, the pandemic slowed things down, along with my recent empty nest and I finally sat in silence and listened, really listened. It was at that moment that things began to fall into place for this doula business. The right people and the right experiences appeared, and I realized that it was truly a calling that I could not ignore. All of my other experiences had prepared me to do this work and do it well.

With an extensive background in early childhood education, I have always loved working with children and their families. Through my progression from classroom teacher to postpartum doula, and ultimately starting my own doula agency, I have been able to blend my heart for education with my passion for newborns. I draw on my training as well as my personal experiences as a mother of four and a licensed foster parent specializing in infant placement to support the families I work with so that they can navigate this joyous, challenging chapter of life with confidence and ease.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The obstacle for me was just myself. With a background in education, I lacked confidence in my ability to run a successful six-figure business. I have found an amazing group of women supporting each other in business and life.

It is not all that different than doula work. As doulas, our job is to provide hands-on, emotional, and informational support to the families we serve. My networking groups have provided exactly the same things for my business. It does take a village and knowing when and where to seek guidance in business ownership has been a game-changer in terms of how quickly I have been able to grow Southern Doula Services.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a birth doula, I am dedicated to providing continuous emotional and physical support throughout the birth journey. Whether it is a hospital birth, home birth, or cesarean section, I will be by my client’s side every step of the way. My goal is to help moms feel informed, confident, and empowered during this special time.

As a postpartum doula, I support families during the transformative and joyous time after the arrival of their baby.

My goal is to provide them with the emotional and physical support they need to thrive in their new role as a parent.

From newborn care to the household organization, I am here to help in any way I can.

We specialize in overnight postpartum care so that families can get the restorative sleep they need knowing that their little one is in very capable hands. We help families to build healthy sleep hygiene right from day one. As their little one gets a bit older, our certified pediatric sleep consultant can help with sleep training to develop independent sleep habits.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
Family is at the heart of everything I do both personally and professionally. As a wife and mother to four adult children, I love to spend quality time together. We especially love to travel. This love of exploration and adventure reflects my positive, adventurous spirit, which I bring to all aspects of my life.

My experience as a licensed foster parent specializing in infant placement further underscores my commitment to serving families in need and sharing my heart with others. With a true heart to serve, I go above and beyond in my professional life to ensure that every family that I work with feels supported, informed, and empowered. I truly love what I do and feel so fortunate to make a living doing exactly what I love.
