Today we’d like to introduce you to Makaya Williams

Makaya , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi, my name is Makaya Williams, also known as Kaya Londonn. I initially started my entrepreneurial journey by doing hair in my dorm at Tennessee State University for about two years. However, when Covid-19 hit and we were all sent home. Virtual schooling failed to keep my attention and focus and I decided to pursue cosmetology full-time. I enrolled in Paul Mitchell the school, graduated April 2023, and passed my state boards in October 2023.

I traveled to Nashville every year for homecoming to expand my services as a traveling stylist. I loved the experience of meeting new students and reconnecting with old friends.

I was expecting my first child, a son named Jaxxon, in August 2024. He was my inspiration and drive to begin the process of opening the first beauty salon and hookah lounge in Cincinnati. All the renovations were completed by Cool Finish Renovations, a contracting company owned by Jaxxon’s father. We started this project in March 2024 with high hopes for success. Every part of the project was self-funded; no outside loans were used. I contributed as much as I could to the interior designing, painting, and even laying down flooring, which I found to be the easiest task. It felt like a dream turning into reality, and I was excited to be financially stable before transitioning into the role of a full-time mom.

At eight months pregnant, on my birthday, July 15, 2024, I announced my pregnancy to the world. We celebrated with a beautiful baby shower on July 21, 2024. Tragically, a week later, on July 28, 2024, I gave birth to my son stillborn.

The loss left me feeling completely defeated with no explanation. I was embarrassed and withdrew from the world until I found solace in speaking with God and seeking my purpose again. Educating myself on women’s health—both physical and mental—brought me comfort and clarity.

This reflection led me to reimagine the purpose of the space I was building. Beyond being a beauty salon and hookah lounge, I envision it as a place to host events that empower and uplift my community. While things are often easier said than done, I know I have not come this far to give up. Jaxxon will always be my inspiration and purpose in everything I do.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were many challenges throughout this journey, both big and small. The most difficult challenge was finding balance. We completely self-funded this project, and managing our day-to-day bills while preparing for a new life made everything extremely difficult. Balancing these responsibilities alongside such a significant investment was overwhelming at times.

As a first-time business owner, I navigated everything through trial and error. It was a constant learning experience. I had to remain strong because, without resilience, I wouldn’t have made it this far.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a licensed cosmetologist, salon business owner, marketer, and creative director. I specialize in helping women feel confident in their everyday appearance. Known as a versatile stylist, I focus on natural hair and hair extensions.

One of my proudest achievements is expanding my brand beyond working behind the chair. This year, I am launching my business website and brand products on Valentine’s Day February 14,2025, transitioning my business online to allow for more traveling and networking. My goal is to connect with organizations that positively impact the world.

I aspire to be a creative muse for other businesses, while pursuing my true passion being apart of the film industry.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that life can take your path in unexpected directions, but it’s up to you to embrace the journey and remain in control.
