Community Highlights: Meet Mark Winston Bobb of The Bobb Law Firm PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Winston Bobb.

Hi Mark Winston, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born in Toronto, Canada to immigrant parents from Guyana, I was raised in a single-parent household alongside three siblings, including my twin sister who has Down syndrome. From an early age, I learned the importance of showing up for others and doing my part. That sense of responsibility shaped my outlook and continues to guide me today.

As I grew older, I realized that helping others is not just about intention, it is also about positioning. I understood that to make a meaningful impact, I needed to equip myself with the right tools, education, and platform. While I have always been committed to community service through initiatives like the Special Olympics, I also saw the law as a powerful way to advocate for and empower others.

That mindset drove me to excel academically. I graduated as an Ontario Scholar from St. Francis Xavier Secondary School and went on to earn four degrees, receiving Dean’s List honors, leadership roles, and community service awards along the way. I am now licensed to practice law in both Canada and the United States, specifically in Ontario and New York, which allows me to serve clients across borders.

Today, I continue to give back through my legal work, my involvement with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., my service on multiple municipal boards and my role as an Adjunct Professor. My journey has always been about creating impact, and I remain committed to advancing opportunities, supporting others and strengthening the communities I serve.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I have had to adapt and pivot at multiple points in my journey. I have lived and studied law in three different countries, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, and each transition came with its own challenges. That meant adjusting to new legal systems, new academic expectations, and at times, starting over in unfamiliar environments.

There were also personal challenges. Being raised in a single-parent household meant learning responsibility early, and balancing family obligations with academic and professional goals was not always easy. There were moments of uncertainty, moments where the path forward was not clear, and moments where I had to push through discomfort.

But those experiences shaped me. They taught me resilience, adaptability, and how to stay focused even when circumstances change. Looking back, those challenges were not setbacks, they were the foundation for where I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Bobb Law Firm PLLC?
Our firm focuses on Immigration, Business, and Family Law, serving individuals, families, and entrepreneurs who need practical guidance through complex legal issues. At its core, the firm is built around what I call the MARK model, which shapes how we approach every client and every matter.

M is for managing the firm responsibly, investing in its future, and honoring our commitments to clients, colleagues, partners, and the broader community.

A is for achieving creative, practical, and effective solutions tailored to each client’s situation.

R is for resolving current issues while also anticipating and preventing future ones.

K is for keeping the firm evolving in response to changes in technology, demographics, and the legal landscape.

What sets me apart is my multi-jurisdictional background. I am licensed in both Canada and the United States and have studied law in three countries. That perspective allows me to approach problems with a broader lens, especially in matters that cross borders or involve diverse communities. I also recognize the importance of representation. As part of a small percentage of Black lawyers in the profession, I take seriously the responsibility to serve as both an advocate and a resource within the community.

What I am most proud of, from a brand perspective, is that we prioritize clarity and practicality. Clients come to us with complex, often overwhelming issues, and our goal is to break those issues down and deliver solutions that are realistic, strategic, and actionable. We are not just focused on solving the problem in front of us, we are focused on putting our clients in a stronger position moving forward.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My biggest piece of advice is simple, just ask. You would be surprised how many people are willing to help if you approach them with genuine interest and respect for their time. Some of my strongest mentor relationships started with a single conversation, including one that began on Reddit of all places.

What has worked well for me is being intentional. When I reach out, I am specific about what I am looking to learn and I come prepared with thoughtful questions. Mentorship is not just about access, it is about engagement. The more you ask questions and apply what you learn, the more valuable the relationship becomes.

I would also add that networking is not about collecting contacts, it is about building relationships. Stay in touch, follow up, and find ways to provide value where you can. Over time, those connections turn into opportunities, guidance, and long-term support.
