Community Highlights: Meet Mia Hill of The Carrington Collection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Hill.

Hi Mia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had just graduated college and was starting the process of medical school, but was torn because I did not feel like that was my passion! I had worked so hard for years to attend medical school and was determined that would be my future. I always wanted to help people, care for them and make them feel better than how they felt before they came in. I finally found that feeling I had been longing for when I started my small business. My boutique brought me joy and happiness I had never felt. I worked at it for months marketing, meeting new people, and just trying to help women around me be confident themselves.

I then realized The Carrington Collection’s slogan; Be Confidently You. As more women shopped with me and told me how confident they felt I knew I would do whatever was needed for my boutique to support as many women as possible. We support loving your true self, being yourself with no judgment, and uplifting other women. This journey has been the most rewarding gift and I am so thankful for all the amazing opportunities I’ve experienced. I’m ecstatic to see what the future holds for my small business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anything we want in this world is never a smooth road, but if you want something bad enough you push through the bumps in the road. Throughout the journey of opening my small business and continuing to grow, I’ve reached many struggles along the way. Your first big purchase of inventory is terrifying, then finding the space available to hold all 15 boxes worth of products.

Companies sending inventory late, packages being damaged in transit, and having to send out another shipment in a day to replace it. The major obstacle is all the no’s you get in a day trying to market, but I always tell myself there’s another way. The list is never ending of obstacles we overcome daily, but I promise every challenge is worth the smile and happiness my small business brings to women daily.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Carrington Collection?
My small business is a boutique that supports women of all sizes, and styles, and we encourage women to be confident themselves. My boutique has no particular style or target group, I want a group of 15 women to walk in and all be able to find something they absolutely love. I customize Nike sneakers by painting them, hand-create interchangeable earrings, and providing apparel from the majority of other women-owned businesses.

My boutique has a storefront with other local businesses and an online website, and we attend many local markets and pop-up shops! I feel that my boutique is different than others because we cater to ALL women and support them in being confident themselves. My dream is one day to be big enough to take some of my profits and donate to organizations that support women in all different aspects.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I’ve noticed ever since Covid-19 and all of us are stuck inside our homes and scared to leave not knowing what would happen.

We all lost sight of ourselves just praying for the nightmare to end. Our happiness and joy were ripped away from a lot of us and we all are trying to find a way back to that. Using uplifting words and supporting others is really important during these times and should be continued to be used in the women’s community.
