Community Highlights: Meet Michella Agduyeng and Nina Xoum of Willow Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michella Agduyeng and Nina Xoum.

Hi Michella and Nina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
We are two best friends who grew up together since the age of 3. We also lived on the same street called Willow Drive which is how we came up with our business name. Growing up, we shared many similarities, passions, and have always had an eye for details.

Through the years, there was always a reason to plan an event, whether it be a baby shower or someone’s birthday. The passion really sprung when we got married and had kids because of all the celebrations and need for decor. We love a good backdrop to capture memories. It was something we enjoyed doing for fun. People always complimented our parties and told us that we should plan their events and do this for a living. Never thought we would become actual event planners for other people.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t exactly been the smoothest road. There are many aspects to planning an event that requires a lot of time and attention that people often overlook. Through the process, we have experienced many trials and errors whether it be logistics, pricing, mother nature, etc. Also, building a clientele is always a work in progress because there are many competitors in our community who do great work as well. Not to mention, we are both a mommy of 2 with daytime jobs and other responsibilities. It’s quite a task, but we always manage to get the job done because it is something we enjoy and the end result is far more rewarding.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Willow Events is a full-service event planning business. We offer event designing, styling, coordinating, and backdrop and prop rentals. We take pride in our work and go above and beyond for our clients. At Willow Events, we don’t put limitations on our clients in any way. For example, many planners and coordinators may only allow their clients to a certain amount of phone calls, emails, and interactions. We, on the other hand, encourage our clients to reach out to us about anything, at any time. We give a lot of our time and energy towards our events because we know it’s important to our clients. We truly think what sets us apart from many local planners is that we offer an all-inclusive menu of services.

We are very hands-on and wear many different hats. We try to do everything ourselves such as fabricating custom backdrops from start to finish, signage, balloon garlands, floral, really any DIY projects that a client might have in mind. We also do wedding day-of coordination. With that being said, we are willing to take on learning new tasks to make the client’s dream event come to life. Our goal is to always add that “WOW” factor to any party, no matter how big or small the budget is.

What makes you happy?
Being able to see our client’s reaction and knowing it is because of our work makes us happy. It is priceless. “I knew this was a Willow Event” is one comment that stuck out to us from one of the party’s guests. With many doubts going into this industry, that was confirmation to us that we are doing something right.
