Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Jaeger
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a registered interior designer with 11 years of hospitality design experience and 17 years of construction management experience. I started my own company, mj design in 2024 with the goal of offering interior design and construction consultation services so I could combine both of my previous career paths. I currently have several residential interior design clients and am working with Belmont University in Nashville consulting on their capital projects. I love interior design and helping clients achieve their project vision. Since I have significant experience in the commercial construction industry, I am able to work closely with the contractor to ensure that their project is a success. I enjoy residential design; however I prefer to work with commercial clients and larger scale projects.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Thanks to a very supportive husband and being in the Nashville area for a long time, I have been fortunate to have multiple business opportunities from the start of my business. I really enjoy being on my own and selecting clients that are a right fit for me. Navigating the ins and outs of running your own business, and setting up the foundation of a business were some of the biggest challenges at first. Luckily I have a strong network that has helped me out along the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about mj design?
My combined experience of interior design and construction project management is what sets me apart from my peers. I graduated from the University of Georgia and started working in the hospitality interior design business in Atlanta. I’ve been fortunate to work on a number of beautiful hotels, such as the Union Station in Nashville, Palmer House Hilton in Chicago and the Ritz Carlton M Street in Washington DC. I left interior design to move to Nashville and I started a career in construction project management with R.C. Mathews Contractor. While I was with R.C. Mathews, I was fortunate to be involved with Belmont University and help to transform their campus for over 15 years.
My business offers full interior design services for both residential and commercial projects as well as construction management / owner representation for construction projects. I have a lot of experience coordinating interior design details in the field and ensuring that the clients’ design intent is fulfilled.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
After living in Atlanta and Dallas, I fell in love with the close knit community of Nashville. Everybody is super friendly and helpful here and there is a good work life balance in Nashville. I love being surrounded by the rolling hills of middle Tennessee and taking advantage of the many parks and nature areas. I’ve lived in Nashville since 2007 and have watched our city grow tremendously over the past few years. I am hopeful that we are able to keep the small town feel while providing the same amenities that larger cities offer.
