Today we’d like to introduce you to Miguel Hernandez.
Hi Miguel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had mistreated my body by smoking, drinking and ingesting things that my body was not meant to have since I was a teenager. After a decade plus, I knew I needed to make a change and quick. I made the decision to move in with a friend in WA who was living much healthier. I had moved from the desserts of NV and seeing the temperate rain forest, upon my arrival on the first day, I made an internal decision I was going to learn all the plants of the region. I wanted to know all the plants I could eat, and which were medicine. I ended up working with herbalists and indigenous tribes for 5 years while in WA. I got my bachelor’s and focused primarily on organic agriculture and indigenous ways of tending the land. Those years in WA helped me to focus on rebuilding and taking care of my body. At some point I realized how little I was attending to my mind or the non-physical aspects of self. I was also going through a eventual breakup with my son’s mother. In my efforts to mend that relationship I moved from WA to OH. In OH, we ended up splitting up and now being single and sharing custody of my son, I decided to continue to work on myself and went back to college to get my master’s in clinical mental health counseling. I graduated in 2020 and have been focused primarily on trying to better understand people and how I can be of service to them in the process of change. At some point it made sense to combine my herbal and indigenous knowledge and experiences with my clinical mental health profession, putting the mind and body back together. As of November 2024, I pieced these two worlds together and created Sovereign Flow, a coaching program. Currently, I am continuing to put all my ideas together, but have created one group program, Well Balanced Warrior, a group for men. I also have one on one sessions, and I am finishing up another group program for anyone, not just men.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were some definite challenges along the way. One of the biggest drivers of where I am, was my trying to figure out why I used substances for most my life. There was a lot of work through sobriety. Also, one of the other struggles I dealt with was loneliness. I had isolated quite a bit while I worked on myself. I think it was necessary but also tough. The last thing that has been really hard, was fatherhood. I have had to learn a lot about myself to be a better dad, and that also meant making many changes. I also didn’t have stable income while I ventured into entrepreneurship, and that made it incredibly hard trying being a father who wanted to provide for his kids. It became and still is, a constant place of guilt and shame, not being able to give them what I thought a father should provide. At the same time my desire to provide for my two kids is also what drives me and what makes it, so I don’t give up, because almost nothing… works out the way you plan it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I think what you should know is that I want to be of service to humanity. Sovereign Flow is a program that I believe may help with that desire. Sovereign Flow was born from my years and thousands of hours working as a licensed therapist and from the years I worked with plants in WA. Sovereign flow is about helping people remember, not fix, but remember their own power. I often say, ”You don’t need any fixing, and you are not broken, you were built for this world, let me help you remember that. ” I would call what I aspire ”to do” is spiritual care as a coach. I focus on isolating all the limiting beliefs, narratives and ideas a person has about themselves and liberate them from those self-imposed prisons. I currently offer one on one coaching and also a men’s group program. I am currently working on in-person coaching program that should be ready to launch this year, 2026, that has ethical herbal/ plant harvesting, plant medicine making, and body-oriented practices and exercises that include some indigenous roots. I would like all the readers to know that I love what I do and I want to offer a service that helps others make sustainable embodied change…but mostly to offer an experience, a felt sense of enjoying themselves and this earth again. I want to help others be excited about being alive again.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I am not sure I believe in luck, bad or good. I think at this point in my life I’ve recognized that we (humans) are meaning makers, We label things in that space of duality quite often, good/ bad, right/wrong etc. But most things I think are inherently meaningless. Existence unfolds moment by moment and we get to give it meaning.
