Community Highlights: Meet Morgan Evans of Evans Plant Farm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Evans.

Hi Morgan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Evans Plant Farm was founded in 1981 when Rick and Gail Evans started with three greenhouses and a vision to build something meaningful for their family. Through decades of hard work and dedication, those three greenhouses have grown into 30, each one representing years of learning, perseverance, and love for agriculture.
Today, the farm is still family owned and operated, with much of the day-to-day management led by Rick and Gail’s children, Heath and Tonya, along with Heath’s wife, Morgan. As we look to the future, we are focused on continuing that legacy, investing in growth, and ensuring Evans Plant Farm remains a place where family values, quality plants, and a passion for agriculture thrive for generations to come.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not always been smooth. Like many family farms, Evans Plant Farm has faced its share of challenges, especially during major economic downturns like the recession in 2008 and again during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each of those moments tested our resilience, from supply chain disruptions to uncertainty about labor, materials, and market demand.
What carried us through those difficult seasons was the foundation Rick and Gail built from the very beginning: a commitment to strong customer relationships and consistently high-quality plants. Even during times of uncertainty, they remained focused on serving customers well and producing plants they could stand behind.
The fact that we continued to grow through both the 2008 economic downturn and COVID-19 is a testament to their dedication, adaptability, and unwavering standards. Those values continue to guide us today as we move forward, honoring the past while building a strong and sustainable future for the next generation.

We’ve been impressed with Evans Plant Farm, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Evans Plant Farm is more than a greenhouse operation, it’s a family legacy built on faith, hard work, and a deep love for growing. What began as small operation with three greenhouses in 1981 has expanded to 30, but at its core, the heart of Evans Plant Farm has never changed.
We specialize in growing healthy, high-quality plants for gardeners, landscapers, schools, and community fundraisers, but what we’re really known for is care. Care in how we grow, care in how we serve our customers, and care in the relationships we’ve built over generations. Every plant represents countless hours of attention, experience passed down, and pride in doing things the right way.
What sets us apart is that we are truly hands-on. This farm is still run by family, and every decision is made with long-term stewardship in mind. We don’t rush growth or cut corners. We grow with purpose, integrity, and respect for the land, our customers, and our employees.
Brand-wise, we are most proud of the trust our community has placed in us. When people see the Evans Plant Farm name, we want them to think of quality, honesty, and a business that genuinely cares. We want readers to know that when they support our farm, they are supporting generations of dedication, resilience, and a future rooted in family and local agriculture.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Build slowly, stay grounded, and don’t lose sight of why you started. Growth takes time, and there is no substitute for patience, consistency, and showing up every day willing to learn. Some of the most important lessons come through trial and error, and that’s okay.
One thing we wish we had known early on is how important relationships are. Strong customer service, trust, and community support will carry you through seasons when things feel uncertain. Quality always matters, especially when times are tough, so never compromise on the standard of what you produce.
Finally, remember that success is not always fast or flashy. For us, building something that lasts across generations has mattered more than quick wins. If you stay committed to your values, take care of people, and keep investing back into what you love, the growth will come in time.
