Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Cooper.
Natalie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I received my first ever commission request on May 15th, 2017 and I consider that the true start of my business. I painted my first dog a few months later & everything happened organically after that.
I received my BA in Public Relations with a minor in Social Media Marketing from the University of Memphis. The reason I have a successful art career today is because of my marketing background. I’ve always been an artist, but I never knew it would be my full-time job!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a mixed bag, but overall a smooth road.
Anything that has come up – taxes, issues with shipping, unhappy clients, deadline stressors, etc. have always been an amazing learning experience that allowed me to grow as a business owner & artist.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I wanted to talk about the business aspect of what I do because I want to encourage other budding artists that they can do it. Learn about money, taxes, investments, and all the things that school didn’t teach you. You will feel so empowered the more financially literate you become.
I specialize in acrylic painting in a pop art style and I think it truly sets me apart. Never try to be like anyone else – it is great to get inspiration from other brands & artists but make sure you can always say that what you created is truly yours.
I am most proud of my customer service skills. I have always been an extrovert so talking to/connecting with people has always been very important to me. Intentional communication and excellent customer service will never go unnoticed by your customers and clients.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is my relationships (family & friends), health, faith, and what I can offer to make the world a more happy place.
I love what I do the most because I think it brings joy to others and I get to connect with animal lovers/pet owners on a daily basis.
