Community Highlights: Meet Nathan Dohse of Another Great Day Entertainment Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Dohse.

Hi Nathan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am the President/Co-Founder of AGD Ent Co and author of Zero To 60 By AGD; a day-to-day management program for performing artists. Like many others in Nashville, I got my start as a performing artist and received some notable opportunities over a decade long artist career.

I spent more time on the business of being in a band than I did focusing on the art we were trying to create. Don’t get me wrong, I can still write a good hook, but it was secondary to the marketing of the brand. That perspective gave me the necessary experience to transition to artist services.

I began to work on the 350+ task program that eventually became Zero To 60 in 2013 and launched in 2014. Since then, we’ve worked with over 200 artists across the world and now have a team of 4 Program Managers who guide artists through the program with a goal of expanding to 10 managers with 150 active artists at a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think smooth roads still have plenty of struggles if the vehicle isn’t tuned up correctly. That would be the case with us. There is an endless market for artist development, that road is paved and ready under trafficked to be honest. But we were committed to providing a quality service at an affordable price and to build the vehicle that would carry that very altruistic goal across the finish line required a lot of patience and adaptability through the first five years.

But that altruism was also the key to long-term success. It’s easy to start out affordable and raise your prices as you go but in artist development, you quickly outprice your target demographic and thus have to become an elite artist service that no longers serve the next generation but rather the already successful. Which is fine for other companies but because of where I came from as a struggling artist, I’ve stayed committed to that demo.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Another Great Day Entertainment Co. (AGD ENT CO)?
We are best known for our flagship service Zero To 60 By AGD, a day-to-day management program for performing artists. Since its launch in 2014, we’ve become equally as passionate about aspiring music industry professionals as the artists themselves. Working with the Zero To 60 program provides such a comprehensive music industry training for young professionals that our interns, entry-level team members and leadership have all grown into very notable positions within the industry. We are excited to announce some new service offerings in late 2021 to expand on this career training.

When I first created the Zero To 60 program, many people told me “oh, I had an idea like that once” and I usually laugh and say “Yeah? Me too! I did my idea though…”

What I am most proud of and what sets us apart is that we executed on an idea that was very difficult to bring to market in a meaningful way. There’s nothing about what we do that is exceptionally unique or difficult, but making it a sustainable and scalable business is where things became challenging. I hope that other creative entrepreneurs will be encouraged to take action with their ideas. I would encourage them to reach out to myself or others who have built something from the ground up to get encouragement and motivation because it is daunting and you’ll need to bolster your confidence often in order to reach your goals.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Stay adaptable, listen to your employee’s needs with intention to act. Get support on your business paperwork, have someone in place who can quickly apply for funding when the time is right. My brother and our Vice President was very on top of everything when the PPP and Small Business loans became available and we were in a good position to take advantage of that. Not sure where we’d be without his knowledge during that time.
