Today we’d like to introduce you to Niki Green.
Niki, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey to become an Aesthetician started many years into adulthood. As a high school graduate I went straight on to traditional college. As I married fairly young and started having a family I put traditional school on hold in the hopes that I would come back to it. As you might’ve guessed… Life had a different plan.
I stayed at home with our four children for the next 12 years raising them to be well-rounded tiny humans. Our children continued to grow and once I realized that with them in school full-time I wouldn’t be needed quite as much I knew that I had to start on a new path. Because my family and children were at the utmost priority to me I wanted to be sure that whatever I did I was quite passionate about as a new that a bit of this passion would take time away from them inevitably.
Over much of my early adult years a multitude of friends and family would reach out to me as they would get ready for special events in their lives. I seemed to always have a knack for helping others to feel and look beautiful and comfortable in their own skin. Each encounter I had left me with the feeling that I had helped someone and I had been of good use. That is what ultimately convinced me to change my path towards aesthetics.
Professional make up services seemed, at first, to be where most of my passions flourished. I started small with weddings, special events, etc. I gained momentum within my field and made my way to backstage CMA remotes and BMI awards. And before you knew it… I was creating red carpet looks.
I had several years of enjoyment of this type of work. But, I found that there were limitations. An aesthetic license granted me access to each of those opportunities. I did my research and found the campus that was best suited for me and my needs.
I graduated from aesthetic school at the top of my class. Before I graduated I had several opportunities before me to choose from with regards to which path I would take. I chose aesthetics in a spa setting. I will fast forward through my years there. But, the short version is… some days there were no clients. Other days there were so many I could barely keep up. I came in early, I stayed late, and I worked harder than anyone asked of me. I honed in on my skill set and I loved on my patients. I did this for 4 1/2 years and it paid off. I have since gone out on my own and opened my own aesthetic practice. It’s a dream, really.
The Skin Lab opened in 2020. I started as the sole Aesthetician and have since with every year grown by adding new treatment spaces to our establishment and new team members. We are a thriving medical aesthetic spa that is well sought after. In 2022 we debuted our Internship Program and have seen great success. In these past five years in business, I have also contributed to professional aesthetic speaking engagements, expert panels, and nationally syndicated podcast in an effort to continue shedding light on all things Aesthetics.
On September 16 this year, we officially hit our five year milestone and plan to celebrate on October 11 with each of our friends and patients who have been so supportive and loyal all throughout these years.
I believe wholeheartedly that if you are passionate for what you love, continue to stay further educated, and on the cusp of the advancements in the technology, as well as, have a superb support system, as I do from my family and my faith then the limits are Endless.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is ever smooth sailing. There are always storms one must pass through. But with the support of my family and a strong faith and a perseverance that is unwavering, you’d be surprised what one can do. It is not in my nature to dwell on the negative. Instead, I seek the positive in each situation. I find that better suitable.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Skin Lab ?
