Today we’d like to introduce you to Penny Haas
Hi Penny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my business and events journey in college. I went to Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and majored in Entrepreneurship. Both of my sisters were getting married and I was intrigued by the planning process. During that time, I found an internship at a country club doing weddings and events. I knew I always wanted to own a business, and my internship allowed me to figured out what field I wanted to be in. My internship brought me to management positions, event sales roles, and Director of Special Events at two different venues. I’ve worked in a country club setting, hotel, and music venue all within the Nashville Area. I decided to go out on my own as an event planner in 2020. Since then, I’ve been full time in my business planning and producing weddings, corporate events, fundraisers, galas, holiday parties, grand openings, conferences and more. Throughout my business lifecycle, I’ve been fortunate to join networking groups like the NCVC, Chamber of Commerce, Nashville Wedding Planner Group, as well as various committees and boards. Most recently I was awarded Best Event Planner through the Nashville Scene, as well as a 40 Under 40 winner for the Nashville Business Journal. I’ve offered internships and mentorships through my business. Today I am focusing on sales, growing my business, leadership and creating meaningful relationships within my community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Business ownership definitely has not been a smooth road all the way. I launched my business during a pandemic, worked through start up as my dad became ill, and faced a tough year when he passed all within my first three years of business ownership. Dealing with grief alone is a struggle, but trying to maintain your work while going through it feels almost impossible at times. I took it all day by day, and was fortunate to have support through friends, family, and mentors along the way.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Penny Haas, LLC is a premier planning company guaranteed to exceed expectations for all event purposes. The company specializes in planning weddings, corporate events, experiences, private events, and event and venue services. I value connections with clients and vendors to make an event come to life. My knowledge of venues and event services, along with my drive to see the big picture of the production sets me apart from others. I am most proud of exceeding my own expectations year after year, whether it’s with an award or recognition, hosting an event with over 1,000 attendees, working at the top venues in Nashville and surrounding areas, contributing to a New York Times feature and other publications, or having the opportunity to offer internships and mentorships. My goal is to be one of the expert and go-to event planners and business professionals when one thinks of hosting a wedding or event in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. I look forward to expanding the business and traveling for event planning and services.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
My definition of success is setting and meeting smart personal and professional goals within reasonable time. Success varies for each individual. I find success in my business and with my family. Success is seen through my business connections and networking, as well as my community and philanthropic work.
