Community Highlights: Meet Rachel Deffendall of The Beaumont Med Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Deffendall.

Hi Rachel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been a nurse for 22 years, and a nurse practitioner for 11 of those years. I graduated from Cumberland University cum laude with a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) in 2003. As a RN, I had prior nursing experience in a multitude of areas, including ER, medical ICU, surgical ICU, cardiovascular ICU, pediatric ER, and cardiac Cath lab and special procedures. I also received certification as a certified emergency nurse (CEN) and then completed courses for my paramedic certification.

I worked as a flight nurse and paramedic with Vanderbilt LifeFlight for 7 years, working both rotor and flexed wings flights cross country. During my time at Vanderbilt I was an associate instructor with the Emergency Medicine airway/cadaver labs. In these labs we taught other flight crews and critical care physicians life saving skills (emergency intubation, cricothyrotomy, central line placement, chest tube placement). I helped lead a cadaver course at the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) national conference and was a clinical educator for the Vidacare company on the use of the EZ-IO intraosseous (IO) devices. I have been featured in several videos, and the fun side of LifeFlight, I was able to work with the crew of the show “Nashville” setting up medical scenes and ultimately serving as an extra in several shows. I was also part of the LifeFlight team that helped film Tim McGraws “Highway Dont Care” video.

In 2014, I graduated the MSN/FNP program at Middle Tennessee State University. For nearly a decade, I worked with The Surgical Clinic as a surgical nurse practitioner with privileges at Summit Medical Center. I managed patients in the clinic as well as the acute care hospital setting, with focuses in surgery, endocrine, wound care and aesthetics. I independently performed the in office surgical procedures ( excisional biopsies, etc) as well as inpatient bedside biopsies. In these 10 years I gained a lot of experience with breast cancer patients, thyroid, colon cancers, etc. I have specialized training in endocrinology (during that time I also had a stent functioning as the nurse practitioner for endocrinologist Dr Interlandi) During my last 6 months with the company I also had focuses in wound care, working in the advanced wound acre clinic, where I was also certified in hyperbarics.

In 2022 my job was changing with the company and I was unsure of where my path was headed. With my medical background with endocrine, surgery, and aesthetics , and my own personal life exposure as a patient and hormone therapy, In 2023 I opened The Beaumont Med Spa. The Beaumont offers an individualized approach to functional medicine, with services focusing on bioidentical hormone replacement, weight loss, IV hydration, peptide therapies, and genetic testing, as well as aesthetics and customized skin care. I am also trained, skilled, and certified in Botox, filler, and facial balancing.

I have been featured as:
Woman of Wilson by the Wilson Post
Woman of Wellness by Lebanon City LifeStyle
Best Nurse Practitioner in Wilson County
(2023, 2024 winner)
Best Nurse Practitioner in Middle Tennessee (2024 Finalist)
Best Nurse Practitioner in Wilson County
(2025 Finalist)

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Each step of the last 3 years has definitely involved a lot of work, but it has also quite surprisingly been very smooth. But I truly believe I am where I am today because this is where I am meant to be. From finding our first location ( a 2 room suite on the Lebanon square), to building our team, to our now newly renovated stand alone site, we have truly been blessed in each step of the way.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Beaumont Med Spa was established in 2022 with the intent of offering a space for individualized, customized wellness and aesthetics. It aims to maintain a thorough approach for wellness and beauty, focusing on improving overall health from the inside out. Service emphasis encompasses hormone health, weight management, peptide therapies and nutrient replacement, as well as a wide range of aesthetics, skin care, facial treatments and massage therapies.

When it comes to weight loss, we feel like we set ourselves apart that we are not just trying to look at the number on the scale. We begin with looking at the root causes for the weight gain (hormone disruption, insulin sensitivities, vitamin deficiencies, etc) and work to correct these issues while also helping patients lose weight. We focus on the entire body composition, including percent body fat, visceral fat levels, and muscle mass, utilizing an in body scan with every patient. Our goal is for our patients to not just lose weight but to be healthy.

We now have 4 advanced practice providers to see patients on the medical side. all of our providers work together to offer the same level of service to each patient. we also have a male provider (my husband David) who also focuses on mens health. We have a licensed massage therapist who not only offers traditional massage therapy services, but also offers cupping as well as works with our advanced providers to offer TMJ therapy with intra-oral massage in combination with botox therapy. And our medical aesthetician, Martha Wilson, has been an aesthetician for 13 years and has been named the Best Aesthetician in Wilson County by MainStreet Awards the past 3 years (2023, 2024, 2025) and also named the Best Aesthetician in Middle Tennessee in 2024! She offers monthly facial memberships, Diamond Glow therapy, chemical peels and Microneedling. She is also certified and trained as a phlebotomist.

We offer in office comprehensive labs, more in depth than a traditional practice, as well as gut testing, NAD testing (because not all patients are candidates for NAD therapy) and genetic testing. With genetics, we are able to truly give an individualized approach to care. we look at autophagy, hormone metabolism, detoxification, essential vitamins and nutritional support, as well as hair loss therapies. We also offer several lines of medical grade supplementation.

One of our biggest services that sets us apart is EBOO. The Beaumont Med Spa is one of the first and only clinics in Middle Tennessee to be certified in and to offer EBOO. EBOO (Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation Ozonation) is the most advanced IV ozone therapy available (filtration, ozonation, and UV lighting are all 3 utilized). EBOO may help reduce inflammation, boost immunity, improve circulation, and help manage chronic illnesses. We see patients with chronic fatigue, autoimmune issues, Lyme disease, or general detox needs. Some of our patients travel over 3 hours for these services. we are listed as a national provider and patients can learn more at eboomedical.com.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The world of aesthetics and wellness has definitely exploded in the past few years. I do see the trend of wellness and functional medicine continuing, as more and more patients are looking for root cause care. Our patients appreciate that we are looking to be more proactive versus reactive when it comes to their health.
