Community Highlights: Meet Sarah Ashley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Ashley.

Hi Sarah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Yes, of course. My entrepreneurial journey actually started when I was a teenager. I would pick up a few writing gigs on freelance platforms to make extra cash in high school. When it came time to enroll in college., I tried to go the engineering route- Computer Science- because I was interested in the topic.

But it didn’t feel right. I realized that just because I was interested in CS didn’t mean it was what I should be doing. Flash-forward to about 2019/2020, and I had started treating my writing side job seriously.

I poured hour after hour into it (while going to school for Business) and sparked an entire mindset shift, telling myself, “If this is what I’m passionate about, if this is what I want to base my career around, I’ve got to be all-in all the time.” And so I was.
Now, I’m enjoying a purposeful career as an independent, professional writer- a Computer Science student turned Copywriter & entrepreneur.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been easy. Actually, that is an understatement. To go from having just an idea to seeing it come to life involves a lot of energy, action, and mindset shifts.

There were times when I severely doubted myself and considered dropping my business ventures for a safe, comfortable 9-5. I honestly feel like that’s something a lot of new entrepreneurs, business owners, and creatives can relate to. The fear, the risk, the uncertainty- those feelings are all just mile-markers along the road.

One challenge in particular that I still face today is consistent structure. Not to say I don’t have a consistent system, but it’s not something that comes naturally to me, and I have to really focus on building consistency and structure in my day-to-day.

It’s getting better- promise.. And I’m so grateful for sticking with it and cultivating those skills instead of letting self-doubt, fear, or challenge uproot my journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Well, I’ve put pen to paper for the last two years as a professional writer and brand storyteller. But if you ask anyone who knows me, they’ll say I’ve been writing since I was a kid- which is true.

Poetry is definitely one of my passions, and I write poetic pieces for businesses and startups all the time. In fact, I recently wrote a poem that was recited in the final scene of The Art of Love- an indie film produced in the UK. Besides creative writing, I work with B2B & B2C companies to produce stellar copy that tells a seamless story for their audience. Think landing pages, email newsletters, bios, and product descriptions.

When I’m not writing copy, the bulk of what I create revolves around blog posts and articles. My skillset stretches far and wide, but I do specialize in a few specific topics: digital marketing, health & wellness, feel-good lifestyle, and e-commerce.

Ultimately, my mission is to help people help themselves through thought transformation- aided by written word that both elevates and inspires. This is a core part of my brand and my being. If you feel any connection with that statement, we’ll work together beautifully.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Hmm, that’s a tough one. Some of my favorite childhood memories involve my friends. I once went on a week-long trip to Missouri with one of my best friend’s family. That was the first time I experienced the rush and serenity of riding a jet ski.
