Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Stapler.
Hi Aaron, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I was introduced to and surrounded by a lot of different styles of music; most prominent were probably country, rock, and blues. I was a drummer from a young age but, not long after, picked up a guitar and fell in love- that was where I started learning music. Ever since, I have torn apart every song I’ve listened to just to figure out how, or why an artist did something so I could either duplicate it or at least build with it.
I still perform with bands and I love it. However, these days I have started writing and producing more. Through some good artist connections, and just generally meeting people and playing out, I have been fortunate enough to build some relationships with a few artists and am producing alongside them as well as writing and producing my own music as a means of experimentation. In between, of course, I’m still playing with bands both on stage and in the studio. I can’t really get out of this lifestyle anymore and I kind of love it.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been bumpy, cracked, littered, and beautiful all at the same time. Obviously, transitioning from a “normal” 9-5 to this world was terrifying. I’ve always been a very structured person so making that mental adjustment was a challenge in itself.
Aside from figuring out when to sleep, navigating general business relationships, and being a father and a husband, one of the big challenges I have faced is just getting into the right circles. Being a little fresher to Nashville, people are not always as open to newcomers (and understandably so; why fix something that isn’t broken)? Also, I believe the apprehension towards something different is probably fairly present in anyone.
“What if they change my sound?” What if their ideas suck?” (And, for what it’s worth, who doesn’t have sucky ideas sometimes? I believe what’s important is working together to make the result the best it can be no matter what!)
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At the end of the day, I am a guitarist. I play and have played, in country bands, rock bands, r&b bands, rap groups, and behind pop acts. I truly love it all. I believe versatility is one of my strengths.
That being said, I have a strong tendency to use sounds from outside genres to influence my directions sometimes. I love a good gospel chord progression in a rap song, but I also love fitting twang into rock and roll!
I believe in the importance of giving a song, or a client, exactly what they want/need. However, I’m not at all afraid to try not things and build something nobody has ever heard of before. It just needs to hit right!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Please feel free to reach out on any of my social media platforms! I love collaborating and building with people!
Support-wise, honestly, who doesn’t want their music streamed? I have t-shirts for sale, and Cash app, Venmo, and PayPal, but I really just love connecting with people who love music.
