Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Hall
Hi Alexandria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been making art and expressing myself creatively since I was really young like many other artists. In college I studied illustration and ceramic art, but found myself also drawn to murals and public art as well. I’ve always loved painting so it felt like a natural additional path. I don’t subscribe to the idea that artists need to pick a specific lane and stay there – I’ve been working and making in the illustration field, fine art, mural painting, and even ceramics for years now and all my paths influence and inform each other in a wonderful way. I enjoy the variety of creative outlets I get to dip into at different times; I feel like it keeps my mind fresh.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I feel like the pandemic really stifled my momentum a bit, especially with my mural work. I had 12 or so projects cancelled in 2020, so that was really discouraging. Through that struggle I made some of my best illustration work that won several awards and led to me finding an illustration agent, getting a better insight into my true creative voice, and many other positive domino effects. I’m sure there will be more obstacles along the way, but I try to remain positive and remember my love for what I do above all else,
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an artist I mostly work in the professional illustration industry along with being a professional muralist. Aside from that I also create ceramic art, oil paint, and am in the early stages of a graphic novel. I’d say that a few of the projects I am most proud of would be the largest mural I’ve worked on, that was completed in late August in the Nations – it’s my most favorite piece to date and carries an amazing story as well. Along with that I’m very proud of the Illustration work that I have made that has received several awards and recognition in the industry. One of those is a series of illustrations I worked on last year that recieved the World Illustration Awards Overall Editorial Category Award.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck for me has always been, in the good moments , opportunities falling into place where my hard work finally pays off and chance to shine, and in the bad times, having issues with being paid by clients or put in unfair/unsafe situations because a client isn’t taking into account my basic needs. I’m happy to report that mostly luck falls into my favor rather than against me!
