Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Kat.
Hi Anna Kat, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Tennessee native who grew up with a love for all things vintage and antique. I became an interior designer 26 years ago and always loved incorporating older pieces into my designs. Six years ago, I got the opportunity to get my first antique booth in Murfreesboro. That grew to a total of 5 booths in three different stores in Murfreesboro and Nashville. In 2023, we opened our own brick and mortar vintage shop. We offer our interior design services through the store in an effort to show our clients how older pieces can seamlessly blend with newer pieces to create a richer story. Just recently, we relocated our store to South Church St in the Boro and added a European Cafe inspired tea room. There we sell locally made baked goods, sauces, jams, honey, fresh milled flour, and more. We offer nine loose leaf tea flavors customers can enjoy in the store or buy to make at home. Our goal is to create a unique and hospitable experience for every customer. The charm of vintage and antique decor, mixed with new pieces, handcrafted items, and Southern tradition creates a warm and inviting place for people to enjoy strolling through. Our services allow our customers to have us help them create the same feeling in their home.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a small business comes with a lot of challenges. Fluctuations with the economy and local spending trends definitely affect us. We have also found, despite having been open for three years, that a lot of people still don’t know we’re here. So getting the word out has been a struggle as well. We are blessed to have a great customer base and they are what keep us going as we continue to grow,
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart is our unique “secondhand first” approach to design. We encourage our customers to incorporate vintage and antique pieces into their home design. We also offer classes and workshops in our store to help teach our customers different skills that will enhance their home experience. We teach decorating, art classes, table styling, Mahjong, plant classes, flour milling, meal planning, party hosting, and more! Our approach comes from a deeply rooted belief that a happy home drives success in other aspects of life. All the subtle elements create a bigger picture that directly affects ones mood, goals, and ability to continue reaching for their dreams. It all starts at home.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I moved to Murfreesboro from Chattanooga. I absolutely love living here! I love the square, the local shops, and the more intimate feel of the town. We are close to Nashville when we want to go see a show or have a big city experience and then come back home to our smaller town. We’re still conveniently located to Chattanooga as well as friends we have in Alabama and Kentucky. The traffic does back up quite a bit but I am used to that being from Chattanooga.
