Today we’d like to introduce you to Aspasia.
Hi Aspasia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in a small suburb outside of Chicago called Hinsdale, IL. I grew up going to see all my parent’s favorite bands such as Oasis, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and Deep Purple. We also loved to go into the city to see musicals and operas, so my family was definitely very artistically inclined.
I was about 15 years old when my passion for music first started, definitely a little bit older than most people. A friend introduced me to Twenty-One Pilots, and I fell in love with their music and songwriting. I went to my first Twenty One Pilots concert and it completely blew me away, and I decided that was exactly how I wanted to make people feel with my music.
It’s really something you can’t explain until you experience it. After that, I would ride my bike around town writing songs in my head, and play shows and open mics around Chicago. When I moved to Nashville for school, I immediately put together a band and continued to write songs every day and play shows whenever I could.
I have now had the amazing opportunity to play countless venues in Nashville, and my favorite thing in the world is writing and performing live.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My musical journey has definitely not been an entirely smooth road. For one, I began writing songs and playing instruments a bit older in my life than most people, so I immediately felt like I needed to catch up to musicians who had been writing and playing since they were little.
Finding a band with which I connect emotionally and professionally can also be a significant challenge, but when you finally click with a group of musicians and can work together harmoniously on stage, it makes any struggle completely worth it.
I believe that everything worthwhile takes hard work and perseverance, which makes it that much more enjoyable when you actually make it through to the other end.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an indie rock artist with a passion for lyrical storytelling and putting on a fun and inspiring live shows.
I would love for people to take away their own meaning from the songs I write, and for my music to give them the sort of feeling they might get from looking up at the beautiful sunset in the sky.
I hope that my shows can be a sense of escape for people, where they can forget the stresses of life and dance with strangers and blow bubbles for the first time maybe since they were a kid!
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One thing people might find interesting about me is that I write almost all of my songs in my head.
Whether I’m working, driving, walking, or cooking – you name it, I’m probably writing a song. This allows me to be as creative as possible with my writing, and experiment with different options before anything is set in stone.
Once I have what I need from my head, I can then find the chords and bring the song to life.
