Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Fleming.
Hi Bethany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
From a very young age, I knew I had an affinity for the beauty industry. One curly girl would tell five others about me & those five would tell ten. Honestly, makeup was my first love & my initial focus when I applied to cosmetology school, but the hair side came naturally to me. I quickly realized after I was licensed that there was a great need for a stylist who specialized in textured hair. Once I moved to Clarksville & set up my private suite, everything took off.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
Like with anything worth obtaining, there have been struggles. In my senior year of high school, I barely had any credits left I had to complete to pass. So I begged my guidance counselor to let me co-op so I could get a head start on my cosmetology hours. I knew what I wanted to do & didn’t want to waste my time in another class, but she laughed in my face & told me no. Once I enrolled in cosmetology school, I faced some adversity & discrimination while I was there. I’ve worked in three different cities, so I’ve partially built & completely rebuilt my clientele a few times, but I’m thankful to say I have very loyal clients who drive upwards of an hour to two hours to see me. And some of whom have come to me since I was in cosmetology school.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a curly hair specialist. I am known for my curly cuts, colors, & curl transformations/restorations. I am proud to say that I am one of few that hold the experience I have with multiple different hair types & textures. What sets me apart from others is my willingness to take my time to learn each & every individual‘s hair and keep the integrity and strength of their curl pattern in mind while giving them the hair shape and color of their dreams. I am also always willing to gain more knowledge on better taking care of my curly-headed kings & queens.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about this city is the ability to have such success with starting & growing a business. What I like least is the lack of nightlife for the younger generation!
