Conversations with Bryant Bural

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryant Bural.

Bryant Bural

Hi Bryant, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my filmmaking journey when I was 12 years old. I picked up our family VHS and started shooting silly videos with friends and family. Anything from G.I. Joe stop-motion, to slow-mo shots of Jenga blocks falling.

Over the years, I kept pursuing it. Shooting weddings, events, and anything I could to make some extra cash.

That eventually got me to where I am now. I grew up playing music and being in that world equally as I am in film. This led to my passion to be fully enveloped by the visuals acquainted with artists and their brands. Predominantly in the music industry now, I direct music videos, performance videos, and branded content.

I’m currently trying to go to the next level and work in commercials, film, and TV.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all! It’s been a whirlwind of ups and downs. You constantly have to remind yourself why you got into it in the first place: to make things you are proud of. Honest things. Things that represent you.

After I went to college for film, I moved back to Nashville and started my freelance career. It’s easy to get locked into doing everything you can to just pay the bills, instead of the things that you want to do. I’ve realized now that ultimately you have to limit yourself on what all projects do so you don’t get burnt out.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One thing I pride myself in is bridging the gap. In film, there are a lot of different variables that can make or break a project. The primary thing just being resources: budget, locations, creative concepts. I think over the years I’ve focused on interpreting large ideas and tailoring them to something achievable.

I love the color. Things that smack you in the face with beauty are better than real life. I try to implement rich colors as best as possible in all of my projects.

I think what sets me apart from others is my background in music. Filmmaking and especially editing all have to do with pacing. If the pacing is off, you lose your audience. After years of playing music, it has better taught me how to keep the pacing of the things I create engaging and impactful.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I’m currently diving more into the world of VFX. We’re building a cool community of talented artists in Nashville who can help show the local community what it takes and how to achieve high-level visual effects/art. Keep your eye out for 615 VFX Collective.

Otherwise, you can keep up with my website or Instagram! I’m posting all the things I’m proud of on those platforms and am planning to do that more. Including breakdowns and bts of how my team achieves certain results.

I’m always open to collaboration. I think it’s the best mechanism to get better at your craft by working with people better than you. So I’m constantly trying to surround myself with individuals like that.
