Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Hart.
Caitlin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been a licensed aesthetician since 2010. In a nutshell, this means I do a variety of facials and skin treatments, as well as prescribe customized skincare routines for home use. Over the next decade, I worked in many areas of my industry, picking up some extra qualifications along the way by going to nutrition school and becoming a reiki practitioner. I built my first solo practice in late 2018 on the principle of true mind-body healing when it comes to skin and self-care. My mission was to bridge the gap between the medical and wellness communities in a way I hadn’t seen done. In 2019 I had more business than I could handle on my own so it was time to grow! I spend the last part of 2019 and the first few months of 2020 putting everything I had into expanding my practice by opening Prism Face Lab. I hired my dream team staff, we were under construction, and set to open in April of 2020. Of course, March 2020 threw us a curveball but we pushed on through 3 months of lockdown and opened our space in June of 2020. It was a long road to return to any version of normal in this close contact business, but it gave us time to dive deep into our mission here and serve our clients in ways that feel personal and impactful.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge was of course the pandemic, which affected many different areas. First, my plan was to keep working on clients during our expansion in order to fund it. But business came to a screeching halt at the moment I needed it most. I lost employees in the process that I was counting on to help me bounce back. And once we did open, most of my loyal clients weren’t comfortable getting close contact services that didn’t seem necessary. It was the most humbling experience possible and I had to learn creative ways to keep us afloat, as well as keep the team I did have encouraged and motivated and see the future I knew was possible for them and us.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I pride myself on a very unique approach to skincare that is both a deeply meaningful form of self-care, while also providing life-changing results. My clients don’t have to choose between the two! I am a licensed aesthetician of 12 years, a nutrition school grad and licensed health coach of 7 years, and 2-time certified reiki energy healer of 7 years. I’ve always valued a more “holistic” approach to healing and skincare and that has taken me a lot of places. I started working exclusively with organic products and treatments but did not find the results I wanted for my clients there. I did a lot of research to find that some medical-grade products actually turned out to be a healthier option than the organic brands I’d worked with, plus yielded much better results. But this still didn’t tackle the root issue. Most of my clients’ skin issues are more than skin deep. I’ve brought my expertise in nutrition and energy work into my treatment programs to be able to get to the root cause of these issues. Stress, lifestyle, diet, supplements, and even the emotional and energetic blockages that show up on our skin. I love supporting my clients with the most relaxing facials and the best skincare on the market, while also providing life coaching, health coaching, and holding space for whatever healing they need to do during our time together.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Since opening Prism in 2020, I’ve built what is truly a dream team of talented aestheticians. In addition to skincare and a wide variety of facials and skin treatments, we offer brow and lash services, and cosmetic tattooing. We are also a group of trauma-informed practitioners that provide all of these offerings in a very intentionally safe space for all people.
