Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlyn Foley.
Hi Caitlyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Caitlyn Foley the Owner of She Shee Photography, LLC. Since I was a little girl I have always found an interest in Photography. My family is from Staten Island, NY but we moved across the country to Arizona when I was 6 years old. There I fell in love with the color of the sunsets & the mountains in the deserts. I use to take my parent’s old disposable cameras and just take pictures until the film was fully used all the time. When I turned 13 years old we moved back to the Northeast where we were stationed in Pennsylvania.
My grandmother gave me my first digital camera when I turned 16. (That was my first year in High School.) When I got to High School I decided to take black and white photography & Immediately fell in love with the course and a 35mm film camera, with a knack for landscape photography. After high school I got accepted to a local community college where I studied Communication & Design and Photography, I later transfer to East Stroudsburg University to continue learning Graphic Designing & Fine Art Photography. ( this is where I learned the basic photoshop techniques that I apply to my images) During my last year in college I internship with one of the best photographers in the tri-state area.
Her name is Eilleen Noelle Photography. She taught me everything about photography, from the angles to being a boss babe business owner. She got me all prepared and encouraged me to continue on with my passion for photography. I later Earned My B.A. In Fine Arts & Design, Specializing In Portraiture Photography. During my final semester in college, I finalized & decided to start my own photography company call She Shee Photography. (You’re probably wondering where the name came from?) I needed something that popped out, BAM! Who is that photographer? etc., lol. I needed something to stand out from the rest of the other talented local family portrait photographers.
So I called my sister & we started to discuss names and she said to me
My sister: Why don’t you use She Shee?
Me: She Shee?
My sister: Yeah She Shee, My friend’s daughter could never pronounce my name so she used to call me She Shee…
Me: I LIKE IT!! It pop’s out & people will wanna know who is She Shee Photography.
I also had a three-year-old at the time and one on the way to support. Luckily I had a great support system to help me get through my difficult times & help support my photography career but All I knew was to move forward with my company. I ran my small business in PA for a few years taking photos of families, couples, Headshots, branding/ marketing. This is where I later decided I wanted more for my company. I wanted something bigger than where I was with my company at the time. I did my research and found out that Nashville, TN was the area to be in especially for business entrepreneurs.
This is the state I finally decided to pack my family up and relocate us & my company to Nashville, Tennessee, which is also called the Middle Tennessee Area. Here… I had to not only start my company all over again in an area I had no idea about but I did not know one person in the area. I had to meet new clients & new surrounding areas, but I was the new girl, the new local photographer who has to compete with other photographers who have been established for years… This was stressful, intimidating but also a blessing. I got a chance, A New chance! I got a new opportunity for my family, A new start for my business in an amazing area, and meet new people ( there is enough room for everyone).
Since then my work has been featured in a number of publications pages, podcasts & won awards for her portraits with so much more ahead. During my free time, I continue on studying photography. I take marketing courses, SEO courses, I take photography courses & continuing learning new techniques that other photographers developed over the years, there is always time to grow and learn. In my downtime, I love to travel with my family across the country. This is where I find freedom in my work. I love landscape & started to sell my landscape photos on Etsy.
My goal is to satisfy my customers with a great quality product & exceptional customer service & Bringing Memories and landscape to your home. I believe a photo session should be enjoyable for everyone involved. My unique approach to thinking outside of the box in order to capture the perfect shot; results in beautiful photos you and your family will treasure for many years. She Shee Photography is always looking for The Next BIG THING!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, It has not been a smooth road. It’s been difficult to start from the bottom and work my way to the top, I do not know anyone in this industry which means I do everything on my own & also having other fellow competitors in the area. I still have to face many obstacles in the future but I stay positive in every way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
