Today we’d like to introduce you to Camarie McBride.
Hi Camarie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I first fell in love with photography as a sophomore in high school over 20 years ago. I always knew photography would be a part of my life in some capacity, but I never could anticipate that it would become my full-time career. I went to college, got a teaching degree, and believed that photography would be my side hustle. However, it didn’t take long for me to realize that focusing on my photography business was far more lucrative than my teaching job. So, I made the leap of faith 13 years ago to quit teaching and pursue photography full time and I have had zero regrets! For the next 12 or so years my main focus was wedding photography which I was deeply passionate about. I was blessed to travel the country and the world to photograph weddings in Germany, Mexico, Costa Rica, New York, Chicago and so forth. Of course, burnout in this industry is real. As much as I loved weddings, I was ready to pivot and focus more on the portrait side of the business. In 2020 when COVID ravaged the world and businesses ever were required to shut down, I took that as my opportunity to make the shift into newborn photography. I fell in love with this market! In 2021, my husband and I moved from Southern California to the Nashville area, and from there my business has continued to blossom. I love newborn photography because I make lifelong clients who will continue to see me for their baby’s milestones, baby number two or three, family photos, etc. The best part of this job is seeing these families grow!
I have over 17 years of photography experience. To say that it’s my passion would be an understatement. In the future, I hope to mentor and teach other aspiring photographers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been relatively smooth. In the beginning, it was hard to compete with so many other photographers, but thankfully with my husband’s marketing expertise, I was able to get my name out there and build up my networking community.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am primarily a newborn photographer, but I also specialize in all types of portrait photography. I offer both lifestyle and studio type newborn sessions, which I think sets me apart from others. My style of photography is light and airy, and it has been my signature style for the last 10 years.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love following Kelly Brown and all her this on how to wrap, pose and soothe a newborn. Her video tutorials have been incredibly helpful with this specific niche.
