Conversations with Camryn Gardner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camryn Gardner.

Hi Camryn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up singing in every school and church choir I could be a part of, and later became the lead vocalist for my youth worship band. When I attended Clemson University, I continued performing as a member of both the university choir and an a cappella group.

After graduating from Clemson, I moved to Nashville to pursue a career in the music industry. I initially worked in business management, but a year ago I made the decision to leave that role and chase my dream of making music full time.

For the past four years, I’ve been performing throughout Nashville and the surrounding areas, with appearances at venues and showcases including the Listening Room, Whiskey Jam, BusCall, and Raised Rowdy. I’m an independent country singer-songwriter with five released singles and an EP currently in the works. My goal is to create authentic story telling country music that resonates and helps people.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I moved to Nashville 3 weeks after losing my uncle tragically and unexpectedly. I was 22, and didn’t know anyone and felt very alone. But I am so grateful I did because I have met some of my lifelong friends and grown so much as an artist and a person.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love to write songs that mean something to people. I grew up in a small town and with that comes its own struggles. I love where I came from, but the best decision I’ve ever made was moving away so I could chase this crazy dream.

A lot of my songs out now are empowering songs about starting over, being your own person and taking life by the reigns. I’ve always been very independent, and if I want something I’m going to go get it. I want to encourage everyone to chase whatever dream they want, no matter how out of reach it might seem. You can do anything you set your mind too.

One of the things I’m most proud of is my song “Stages”. I wrote it 3 years ago on a writers retreat with a bunch of strangers who have turned into some of my best friends. It is a song about embracing the stage of life you’re on, no matter how behind you might feel. We’re all right where we need to be.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel as though I’ve always been very outgoing. I love people, and I love supporting my people. In Nashville that is very important. You have to cheer other people on because everyone’s timeline is different and your road to success is never to be compared to someone else’s.

I also just was raised to chase something with my whole heart. I’m very passionate and never do anything half way.
