Conversations with Cash Finerd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cash Finerd.

Cash, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Iya and I started our first coatings business in Naples, Florida, with nothing but credit cards and hope. It wasn’t easy. At the time, “epoxy garage floors” weren’t really a thing yet, so we began by installing non-slip coatings and treatments on everything from bathtubs to pool decks.

Once we found the right products, processes, and marketing, the business took off like a rocket ship. Fast forward about six years, and we realized we needed to expand our offerings. We had built incredible relationships with our customers, and our coatings lasted so long that many of them didn’t need us again for years. If we wanted to continue serving them, we had to evolve.

So we dove headfirst into learning about epoxy, polyaspartics, urethanes, and other coating systems that made sense for our customers’ needs. We studied, read, and took classes—many of which didn’t fully prepare us for real-world applications. We installed countless garage floors at no charge just to gain experience and perfect our craft.

Work became nonstop. We were working six to seven days a week for what felt like years. Then one day, Iya said enough and packed the truck for a vacation to Tennessee. We immediately fell in love with the people, the culture, the pace of life, and the beauty of the area.

That trip changed everything. We decided to sell our business in Florida and move to Tennessee. After relocating, we purchased another business outside of the coatings industry, which kept us just as busy as before—until COVID began. Watching businesses shut down in Canada, I saw the writing on the wall and decided to put that business up for sale immediately. It sold in just three days.

For the next two weeks, Iya and I sat around looking at each other. Then I said, “Let’s put some feelers out for epoxy work.” That’s when we discovered what was happening in the local industry—homeowners were paying $7,000 to $9,000 for garage floors that should have cost closer to $3,500, simply because they didn’t know better.

Once again, we were off to the races.

And now, here we are.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think any business owner that’s been working for themselves over 24 hours would never call the journey a smooth road.

But I guess that’s half the fun.

We’ve had many struggles overall of these years… there’s so many that it’s hard to really narrow just a few down. I would have to say that the biggest struggle is just staying motivated.

When times are hard, it’s hard to stay motivated to work past the difficulties… and when times are good it’s hard to stay motivated because when things are great it’s hard to remember when things weren’t so great.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We install high end, durable floors that are both functional as well as pure art. There are other companies that do a good job… however, our attention to detail, great communication, and the fact that we literally will not stop until the project is complete and past expectations.
We are most proud of the relationships we have built with others. All of our friends, were once customers. Every project we take on, that home or business becomes ours. We treat every project like we are installing in our own home. We do not over book…. So if we agree to install your product, you are our only concern. We choose to focus on one project at a time until that project is finished to perfection. We are personally at every jobsite … no subcontractors .

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I believe that Murfreesboro is a very diverse city… compared to the many different suburb cities of Nashville, culturally and economically we have it all here.

We dislike the most it’s really two things…. Traffic for what it was when we first moved here…. And Buc-ees isn’t open yet!
