Today we’d like to introduce you to Chance Walker.
Hi Chance, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in northwest Washington and started playing violin at 3. I became first chair in my high school orchestra and also started integrating guitar. After high school I spent time touring in bands and eventually studied guitar at musicians institute in Los Angeles. I recorded with engineer Robi Banerji (U2, Rolling Stones) for channel records (8 mile soundtrack) and interned at MySpace/interscope. I also worked closely with producer Arnold Lanni (simple plan, our lady peace). In 2012 I moved to Nashville and toured with local hip hop act Chancellor Warhol and was on the American festival circuit for a while (hangout fest, bonaroo, life is beautiful, forecastle). In 2021 I started my solo effort “Tropez” and shortly after started working with GRAMMY winning producer Ben H. Allen iii in Atlanta (gnarls Barkley, animal collective, soccer mommy) and started working as a topline writer for loose change publishing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can honestly say that my biggest struggles holding me back were myself. I had always wanted to break out on my own but lacked the self confidence, even when working with big name producers. In an ever changing landscape of technology in music I’ve had to adapt and become as proficient as I can on my own to produce as much of the material as I can.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a multi-instrumentalist and song writer, producer, vocalist and DJ. I’m currently most proud of my latest work with Ben Allen and my forthcoming album releasing this fall. I think that I’m inspired by so much that I’m very versatile as a singer/songwriter and have had the pleasure of working with other artists all around the world, and my music is widely played on radio in Europe, Brazil and Australia. I’m a complete audiophile, so in the same way a DJ can dig into their knowledge of music catalogs I can quickly adapt to writing most genres of music, as long as I am inspired by it.
