Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlotte Cornette.
Hi Charlotte, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Painting has been a passion of mine ever since I can remember. I remember asking Santa for beginner’s paint sets for Christmas all the time when I was little. During the pandemic, I picked up the brush again to commission canvases for just a few close family friends. When I moved to Nashville to complete my Master’s in Physician Assistant studies, my free time decreased and my stress and workload increased. At the time, I hadn’t yet considered my art as a side gig, but I knew it was a dream of mine to be an artist. At the end of PA school, I decided to give it another go and start painting again, as a form of therapy.
It can be challenging to put your art out on display for the world, but I had some encouragement from friends and family that motivated me to post my art on my Crafted by CA Instagram account. Since then, I have been featured in an interior design studio in Oklahoma, which was an immense honor. My dream is to create colorful, abstract art that can fill homes, studios, establishments, etc., and exude love, joy, and light in any space. Each piece is unique, which is my favorite part about creating one-of-a-kind pieces. My faith in Jesus has been my rock that allows me to continue creating, and my goal is to paint for His glory for as long as I can!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe I am still at the beginning of my road, which I must admit has not been smooth, but God never gives us challenges that we cannot handle. Creating art can be costly.
There have been highs and lows, and I of course have dreams of creating art that can be found all over the country (or even internationally!). But I have to remember why I started painting again in the first place… for therapy, for my peace, and His glory. As long as I remain true to who I am, I know I will end up where I am meant to be.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in creating abstract mixed-media canvas art. I love to create bold, vibrant pieces that demand attention, but also compliment the space that it lives in. I also create custom-designed painted champagne bottles that make the perfect gift for weddings, parties, graduation, showers, etc.
I strive to dedicate attention to detail, passion, and purpose to each piece I create, whether it be a canvas or a bottle. Seeing the joy on people’s faces when they receive their piece, and knowing I brought happiness to someone’s day is by far my favorite part of painting.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Probably the fact that I am self-taught! I have not taken an art class in middle school. I teach myself about techniques and materials, but I believe that painting is a given gift, and all I wish is to utilize it!
