Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Arthus.
Hi Chris, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey to becoming a business owner wasn’t something I planned for most of my life. In many ways, it was born out of one of the most challenging seasons I have ever faced.
I was born and raised in East Texas, where I learned the value of hard work, accountability, and perseverance. Those values stayed with me as I pursued my education and career. I graduated from college with a degree in Occupational Safety and Health Technology and began a career in the construction safety industry.
Over the next two decades, I worked throughout refineries, chemical plants, nuclear facilities, and pipeline construction. The work was demanding and often required extensive travel, long hours, and a high level of responsibility.
Despite my success, I often felt unfulfilled. While I took pride in my work, there were many times throughout my career when I felt unappreciated and disconnected from the impact I wanted to make. I continued to work hard and provide for my family, but deep down I knew I wanted something more meaningful and something I could truly call my own.
In 2023, my life changed dramatically. After receiving custody of my three children, I was unexpectedly let go from my job just three months later. What could have been viewed as a devastating setback became a defining moment in my life. As a newly single father with full responsibility for my children, I was faced with an important decision about my future.
I knew one thing for certain: I did not want to return to the safety industry.
For the first time, I gave myself permission to pursue a different path. I reflected on what genuinely brought me satisfaction and fulfillment. One passion that consistently stood out was automotive detailing. I had always enjoyed the process of transforming a vehicle and taking something ordinary and making it exceptional through hard work and attention to detail.
Instead of searching for another safety position, I decided to bet on myself.
At 37 years old, I launched Supreme Shine Mobile Detailing. Starting a business from the ground up was both exciting and intimidating. There were no guarantees of success, but I was determined to build something that would not only support my family but also give me a sense of purpose and ownership over my future.
The same qualities that helped me succeed in safety—discipline, consistency, professionalism, and attention to detail—became the foundation of my business. Every vehicle I detail reflects my commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. Being mobile allows me to provide convenience while delivering professional results directly to my customers.
What began as a difficult chapter in my life ultimately became an opportunity for growth. Losing my job forced me to reevaluate what success meant to me. Today, success is no longer measured by job titles or corporate achievements. It is measured by the ability to provide for my family, build meaningful relationships with customers, and create a business that reflects my values.
Supreme Shine Mobile Detailing is more than a company. It represents resilience, faith, and the belief that sometimes life’s greatest challenges can open the door to its greatest opportunities. My journey from East Texas to a 20-year career in construction safety, to business ownership has taught me that it is never too late to reinvent yourself and pursue a life that brings both purpose and fulfillment.
Today, I am proud not only of the business I have built, but of the example I am setting for my children: when life changes unexpectedly, you can either let it define you or use it as the motivation to build something even better.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of my biggest challenges has been balancing a full-time job, being a father of three, maintaining a relationship, and growing my new business. Finding time to connect with mentors and industry professionals while managing family and work obligations has been one of the most difficult aspects of my journey.
The detailing industry presents its own unique challenges. It is a highly competitive and saturated market, making it difficult for new businesses to establish a foothold. Standing out among countless competitors requires persistence, creativity, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service. Success is not simply about providing quality detailing; it is also about building trust, creating a strong reputation, and consistently finding ways to differentiate yourself from others in the industry.
While the road to growing a successful business has not been easy, the experience has strengthened my determination to continue pushing forward for my family, my future, and the vision I have for my business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in professional automotive detailing, paint correction, and ceramic coating application. My goal is to help elevate the perception of the detailing industry by positioning it as a skilled, technical profession rather than being confused with basic car washing services.
To support that standard, I operate from a fully equipped, self-contained mobile van that allows me to service vehicles anywhere without the need for external water, power, or compressed air. This setup enables a consistent, high-quality process on-site while delivering professional-grade results at the convenience of the client.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is building a life where I can provide for my family while still being present for the moments that matter most.
