Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Miller.
Hi Christy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My platform focuses on Disney, lifestyle, fitness, makeup, Travel, and living a Ketogenic life. Prior to starting my social media platform, I dabbled in Makeup, Photography, Acting, and Modeling and really enjoyed it so picking this part of my life back up was seamless. I was planning a Disney trip in 2017 and came across the Disney community on YouTube and Instagram. After visiting Walt Disney World for the first time, I realized I wanted to be part of that community. I first created a few review videos just talking about my trip and started posting all the pictures I took on Instagram. About a year ago I changed my Instagram profile to “public” and changed it from a “personal” account to a “creator” account. After a while of posting mainly Disney content I felt like something was missing, I decided to begin incorporating makeup into my YouTube Channel and my Instagram.
On Instagram, I post makeup pictures daily along with theme park pictures (Disney or Universal sometimes others). On YouTube, I have a Livestream called Magical Makeup with Christy where I do themed makeup live. Anything from a Disney character to just a theme such as water. It took a while for my YouTube and Instagram to grow to where it is now, I still have a very small following but really enjoy taking pictures, editing, and posting pictures.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would like to say my road was smooth, but I really can’t. It wasn’t difficult but it wasn’t easy either. When I first started my YouTube Channel I had to deal with trolls and understand the fact that Trolls are just out there to spread hate. It took me a while to realize this however joining a community of close-knit Vloggers that had all experienced this was helpful. Most of the community really embrace each other and build each other up but like in any business there are a few bad apples so learning this was a bit of a challenge at first. I also had to learn how to edit videos as the Vlogging realm was new to me. Doing YouTube has helped me grow as a person and a public speaker in other aspects of my life. It’s helped me to gain the confidence I needed to be successful in my corporate career. Even now you come across hurdles and situations that create roadblocks, you just find ways around them. For me, I have close friends in the community that I can talk to about anything and get the support and empowerment I need to move past any hurdles.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from others is that I have been all sizes and shapes so I can relate to most everyone in the community. I’ve been 110 lbs. and I’ve been 210 lbs. I’m in the middle now and feel mostly comfortable in my body. Having the knowledge of how one feels at all the different sizes in life makes me relatable to other women which is why I do not hide the process from the world. You can find my story about my journey to health on my YouTube Channel and from time to time I will post about it on my Instagram. To find my healthy lifestyle has been a journey for me and I’m proud I have found it. Another thing that sets me apart from others is that people can follow my makeup growth on my social media. There is no wrong way to do makeup as it’s an art and you can create what you want how you want. I have come to realize because it is an art no two faces are the same and what works on my face may not work on another’s. Because I like to try so many different looks you can follow along on my journey either through Instagram or YouTube to see what works for me and what doesn’t. This leads me to what I am most proud of. People can sometimes be insecure in their own skin and feel like they aren’t good enough. I’ve met so many people that feel this way. Exactly how I felt for so long and sometimes feel even now. I speak to these women who I call friends all the time about these insecurities and they seem to be baffled that I’m insecure myself. We create together and I’ve watched these women grow so confident in themselves over the past year. It warms my heart to know that they chose me to be their friend and our bonds have built each other up to where we are more confident. I wouldn’t trade these friendships for anything.
What are your plans for the future?
Because my platform is so diverse but with concentrations in Disney and makeup, I plan to continue to grow my makeup portfolio. Recently companies started reaching out to me for collaborations, I’ve really enjoyed this venture of working with companies and trying their products while giving my honest review. Not only does it give me the opportunity to discover new product lines, but it also gives my viewers the opportunity to discover them as well. I hope to grow this venture even more and work with more companies. I don’t have any big changes down the pipeline at this very moment but that is only because my Travel Agent and makeup ventures are still new. I’ve honed in on my makeup and have really been working on building it out. For now, this is where I am at but do intend to keep the momentum going and building on it.
