Today we’d like to introduce you to Chy The Brat.
Hi Chy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember. Creativity has always been my language, and when I fell in love with technology, it only deepened my relationship with art. I began my journey as a graphic designer in 2013, refining my skills and developing my eye for visual storytelling. In 2019, I officially established myself as a professional designer, turning passion into purpose.
In 2020, I expanded into writing, bringing the same visual intensity and emotional depth into storytelling. Today, I go by the name Noir Carter, a brand and identity that reflects my aesthetic, voice, and vision. I started from scratch with hard determination to draft the most iconic designs, photographer, self-taught growth, and relentless experimentation that built who I am today. And from this experience it forged
my way forward in both design and writing.
Over the years, I’ve created more than 200 book covers, contributed to over 100 bestsellers, and collaborated with incredible bestselling authors. My work is rooted in Black excellence, art excellence, and intentional storytelling. I see art in everything, and creating is not just what I do, it’s what I love, what I live for, and what I was meant to do.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, haha, by no way, shape, or form has this been a smooth road. Being a Black author and a Black graphic designer comes with its own set of challenges, and the path has been anything but easy. There were growing pains, financial struggles, difficult personalities, and the full weight of navigating creative spaces that don’t always make room for you. I’ve faced writer’s block, artistic block, and the emotional consequences of entering a world where not everyone sees your true artistry, and the truth is some people don’t see you at all. They look past you.
I’ve always been a diamond in the rough, and that made it hard at times for people to recognize me as a self-guided, humble artist who knew exactly where they were going. But those challenges never stopped me from becoming what I needed to be, and if anything, those challenges sharpened me. It wasn’t my passion or discipline that failed me, it was the world around me that struggled to accept me for the artist I truly am. And at my core, I am a poet they see all ends.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At my core, I am an artist—that’s who I’ve always been and who I will always be. I specialize in graphic design and technology-driven art, with a strong focus on book covers and raw, emotionally charged visuals that tell a story before a single word is read. My work lives at the intersection of art, technology, and storytelling.
I’m also a photographer, editor, writer, and tech-savvy creative, which allows me to see projects from every angle. That versatility is part of what I’m known for. Over the years, I’ve created bold, recognizable designs for bestselling authors, and my style has become synonymous with impact, mood, and unapologetic presence.
What I’m most proud of is writing a 90,000-word book and publishing it on Amazon, which is hard to create something out of nothing and seeing it come to life in the world. That accomplishment represents discipline, vision, and belief in myself when no one else could see it yet.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just design, I can picture the vision. I understand the soul of a story, and the power of turning ideas into something tangible. I don’t follow trends; I create from instinct, experience, and purpose and that’s the difference between me and others.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that might surprise people is that I was the photographer at my aunt’s wedding. It was one of my first moments realizing how naturally I step into creative roles when it matters most and take full control. Capturing real emotion, movement, and once-in-a-lifetime moments taught me how to tell stories visually long before I ever branded it as a skill. That experience shaped the way I approach all of my work today by seeing beauty, truth, and narrative in real time.
