Conversations with Daffany Darcell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daffany Darcell.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a native of West Tennessee currently residing in Nashville. We all go through things.

Some good and some bad… With me, my journey to becoming an author began by just journaling and finding my way through obstacles that I was personally going through in life.

The more I started to write, the more God put the vision together for me that it was bigger than what I was going through. He showed me that I would give the world a piece of me in the form of a devotional/journal book.

This started about three years ago, however that wasn’t three years of writing. Those that write, know that it comes in waves, and you can’t just make yourself write. You have to be in your zone and prepared to do such. There were long time periods in between that I didn’t write due to just going through life circumstances. Yet, when I felt the urge to do so, I made sure I did.

I’m always considered the strong person but when that strong person is going through things, who is there for me to turn to? I have some faithful family and friends to turn to, HOWEVER, I learned through my faith and love for God that he is there even when no one else is.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were definitely challenges along the way. I know that anything worth it isn’t easy and always comes with roadblocks.

I am a very active mother of strong academically & athletically engaged children that keep me on the go. When you factor in demanding job as well, you have to always be prepared and ready to deal with whatever may come your way.

This was a life mentality that I took on every day. I have always been very independent and do what needs to be done in order to take care of my family yet succeed in workplace as well. I make sure to be active in church also as that’s important to me. Not to mention a divorcee, moving to another state so life has been quite a transition.

Obstacles that came my way were definitely not easy to deal with but as I look back now, they were only God’s way of preparing me for what was ahead. I truly thank HIM for it all.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My background consists of many years as an educator as well as holding several leadership roles in the correctional arena across several states. I served as an associate warden for a few years at a prison here in Nashville. I’ve always tried to do my part to be firm, fair, & consistent in helping all that I can. I will always advocate for re-entry services and the fight to decrease recidivism.

I am very proud of my current role as Vice President of Domestic Violence Services for the YWCA of Greater/Middle Nashville. I am able to help women/ men & children that have found themselves in less than fortunate situations. We are able to be of service to them. The YWCA not only keeps everyone safe but helps get all the resources needed in order for them to recover and obtain a new start. The YWCA is worldwide and serves many different populations living up to the mission of equality and empowerment. I’m so blessed and thankful to be a part of such an amazing organization.  Everyone works together as a team for the overall goal and it’s so rewarding.

As a person, I’ve always tried to help all that cross my path. My book, PRET•TY FIRE•CRACK•ER, allowed me to open up and share experiences and devotions to allow others to get through trying times easier. It also allows for self-reflection, which is needed in order for us to change and find true inner peace. We have to learn how to channel negative energy and feelings within, in order for them not to destroy us.

I hope my devotional journal helps allow all to do so.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality most important to my success I believe is my heart and empathetic nature. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m one of boundaries and stick to those, however, I’m one to be fair as well. If there is a problem and I can help, then I’m going to help.

If I can share a resource, recipe, or simply a smile then that’s what I will bring. You never know what a person is going through and the simplest of things can brighten their day. I’m just that person that always wants to bring that light to others.

I’m a hard worker and aim to succeed in all areas of my life. I’m a natural born leader and I push others as well to lead and become great.

Thank You for your time and support.
