Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Spiro.
Hi Danny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m from Mobile, Alabama, along the Gulf Coast, where music has always been a significant part of my life. It has been my escape and a way to express my feelings since the beginning. As a shy kid, I found solace in music. In high school, I played football and participated in numerous talent shows, which gave me the confidence to perform beyond school events. I played at various occasions, including Mardi Gras parades and after-parties for prominent local high schools. Music helped shape who I am today.
After graduating high school, I attended the University of Alabama, where I found more opportunities to perform in the fraternity and sorority circuit. After college, I returned to Mobile and immersed myself in the local bar scene, covering songs and eventually touring the Gulf Coast.
Eight years ago, I made the move to Nashville, where I began playing on Broadway, honing my craft through writers’ rounds and showcases. To support myself while building my music career, I served tables and took every gig I could find.
My career has grown significantly since then, with my first single, “Ecstasy,” and my new song, “Her Favorite Color,” now available. These past eight years have been incredible, with their share of ups and downs.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This job isn’t easy. As an artist, we constantly grapple with issues of self-worth, self-esteem, finances, and relationships. Plus, we tend to be a bit on the unconventional side. Being broke in an expensive city speaks for itself. When I first moved here, I worked as a server at a downtown restaurant and played for tips and a bar tab across the street. Working doubles and playing until 3 a.m., only to start again a few hours later and I did this 6-7 days a week. It took a toll on my body and mind. Balancing writing, recording, and finding the time and money for it all was a tough act. During those years, I had little personal life and, like many artists who move here, often felt very alone. Genuine friends who truly have your best interests at heart are rare in this business. I constantly questioned myself, wondering if I was delusional or if I had made a huge mistake. It’s a lot of late nights and early mornings in Nashville, but the grind makes me a better artist.
I think as artists we always question ourselves and struggle with the “Am I good enough” mind set. I’ve dealt with weight issues, and low self-esteem, but despite these challenges, I’ve been lucky to have a great support system and reliable friends. I owe my parents for enrolling me in various activities as a kid because I think it made me a well-rounded individual which helped me to make friends easily.

What were you like growing up?
I was a shy kid growing up and often had trouble asking for help, a challenge I still face sometimes. However, participating in sports year-round helped me become more social and build valuable social skills. My interests as a child have remained similar into adulthood. I love art in all its forms—music, painting (especially works by New Orleans artists), dancing, and poetry. I also enjoy hunting during duck season and offshore fishing whenever I can make it back to the Gulf Coast. This career has transformed me into a more outgoing person and has greatly helped me become comfortable with who I am. I’m passionate about film and radio, and I’ve always wanted to be an actor. I find serenity in getting out into the woods or on the beach, even if I’m alone. Family is incredibly important to me, and I believe that relationships are one of the most crucial aspects of life. Occasionally, when I have the time, I also enjoy playing video games.
