Today we’d like to introduce you to Deandra Green.

Hi Deandra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My mom has had photography as one of her hobbies for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I remember going with her to different photoshoots and seeing her produce some great work. Oftentimes, I was the subject of her photos especially when she wanted to try out a new location. It was not until I got older that I realized I had a passion for photography as well. I guess you can say photography is in my blood. Since I took up photography a couple of years ago I still find myself bouncing ideas off my mom and asking questions about different things. Her love for photography and her belief in me to do great things has got me to be where I am today. To her I am grateful.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With learning something new there are always going to be challenges. I would take photos and the lighting would be all wrong, I would sometimes try to take photos when the sun was right overhead. That produced some not-so-great photos. I remember getting frustrated with myself and having thoughts of doubt. I knew that I could do better, be better, I just had to keep at it no matter what. I am a firm believer that just because something does not work out does not mean that you should give up. I can honestly say my drive and determination to be better have allowed me to overcome those obstacles.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
During the day I am the Communications/Data Analysis Coordinator in Undergraduate Admissions at Middle Tennessee State University. When I am not there you can find me assisting with the up-and-coming clothing brand called Unchained Memories. I do all things social media and photography for the brand. You can find me and the brand owner, Sean Carter, in and around Nashville promoting this amazing brand. Although those two things keep me pretty busy Deandra LeCole Photography is what I am most proud of. I specialize in portrait, product, and event photography. I believe what sets me apart from the rest is my ability to just go with the flow. Sometimes people feel uncomfortable in front of a camera and it can be quite a chore for some.

I like to meet people where they are. I believe in capturing people in their natural element. Whatever you need to make you feel comfortable for the photo let’s do it. You need me to play your favorite rap song to get you hyped up, send me the artist so that I can have already set up for you. You need me to hype you up and cheer you on, I got you there too! Taking pictures does not have to be hard and painful, it can be quite fun actually. I am here to create that enjoyable experience for you.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
If I haven’t learned anything else since the pandemic began I have learned that anything could change at any moment. Everything could be fine one moment and then the next moment it could all be totally different. My go-with-the-flow mentality has allowed me to just take things as they come. A venue could be closed at any moment even when you had a scheduled shoot or a client could suddenly become ill.

I am in contact with my clients regularly and I always like to keep an open line of communication because we live in a world where things change and they change fast. In the end, it is what it is and it will all be okay we may just have to make some minor adjustments along the way.
