Conversations with DeeAnn Dominy

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeeAnn Dominy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am from Arlington, Texas but moved to Nashville when I was 26 years old. I had been singing since I was 5 and wrote my first song at 20 yrs old. My Dad played so many country and soul albums for me while I was growing up and I could not focus on anything but writing songs and singing. I knew as a small kid that I would move to Nashville someday. I arrived here in the late 90’s and now I see just how lucky I was to experience the “real” Music City. I arrived on the scene when songwriters were still writing in small houses on Music Row. I was fortunate enough to be signed as an Artist/Writer by Starstruck Entertainment, Warner Chappell, and later Pacific Bridge Music. My dreams came true as I got to write with some of Nashville’s elite songwriters and open up for some amazing Artists. Those were the best of times. I branched out into the indie world in 2011 and my first EP release, “Based On A True Story” was featured in Billboard Magazine. When recording this album. I discovered my love for solo writing. The more songs I wrote by myself, the more authentic I think my music became. I was also fortunate enough to be a two time winner of the DISCovery Award from Robert K. Oermann in Music Row Magazine. I released two other indie projects from 2011 to 2022. My personal story took a turn when I became a single Mom in the truest sense. Family comes first to me so that became my priority and my music had to take a back seat for a season. Later, I went to spend some quality time with my precious Mom in Texas before she went to Heaven in 2024. Music continued to stay embedded in my soul and the time has finally come where I can lean into it again with all that I have. What I have learned is that life is a collection of stories, full of both joy and heartaches. I have learned to express my stories in songs. Those albums my Dad played for me growing up have finally come full circle for me. I just released my new album “This Is Soul Country”. I loved writing and singing on the Row in those early days but this record defines who I am as a songwriter and singer. I have always wanted to put my raspy voice into a setting that combines Country, Soul, and Roots Rock. No boundaries or guardrails, just the true me being true to my vision and artistry. I was so blessed to also record a soulful rendition of “Help Me Make It Through The Night” with the legendary Charles Wigg Walker. I wrote every other song on this album by myself and I produced it as well. My personal favorite is “I Wanna Live Like You Did”. It is a tribute to my Mom. I don’t think I ever fit into one genre so I decided to embrace that and that is how “This Is Soul Country” was born. My personal journey has not always been an easy one but I am living proof that God works all things for the good. I have dreamed of making music in this city since I was about 9 yrs old and I cannot tell you how much joy this brings me now. I am making music the way I hear it, pouring every ounce of the true me into it. We are so thankful for the big turnouts at our live shows and all of the people buying/streaming this new record. An unexpected new thrill ride and I promise you I do not take a single minute of it for granted.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not always been a smooth road. As I mentioned before, being a single Mom was not easy. Those were very challenging times for all of us. I am still so thankful for the village of souls that surrounded us and helped us find our way to the other side. Also, losing someone you love is never easy. My Mom was my biggest cheerleader and I still feel a hole in my heart since she has been gone, but I try to live like she did. I try to take time for sunsets, and birds, and prayer, and family, and friends.

I have also had some health issues in my lifetime that created some obstacles here and there. Those health issues led me into my second passion. I wanted to help other people live their healthiest and best lives. I valued it so much in my own life, I felt a calling to share it with others. I became a Personal Trainer and Health Coach. This led to opening my small business, Abundant Lifetime Health. It is pure joy for me to work with each of my beloved clients in their health and wellness journeys. I think when we are dealt struggles in this life, we need to pass what we have learned on to others who are seeking help. I know I would not be where I am if people had not done that for me along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Singer/Songwriter. My new record “This Is Soul Country’ was just released in April 2026. I play at various venues around Nashville with my band “DeeAnn Dominy & The Soul Country Revival Band”.

As mentioned, I am also a small business owner. I am a Personal Trainer and Health Coach. My company is Abundant Lifetime Health. My philosophy is a simple one. “What you do for your health and wellness in this decade, likely predicts your quality of lifestyle in the next”. My youngest client is 30 and my oldest is 100. I believe if we are going to continue to strength train, hike, take fabulous trips etc, we must invest in our health the way we invest in our 401k’s, I focus on keeping people in shape while preventing injury. Some of my modalities are modified HITT training, foam rolling and fascia work, improving balance, losing weight, creating fluid mobility, stretching, and stress relief with metric tracking.

How do you think about happiness?
I love this question! Happiness is so important to me. I think what makes me the happiest is simply being outside in nature, being around the people I love, birds, sunsets, being out on the water, listening to music, coming up with new designs and decor for my home, expressing myself, exercising and most importantly staying close to God.

I lived many years in a stressful state so I have a new found commitment to peace and joy in my life. My motto is “Hold Your Peace”. It’s easy to be happy when I am doing the wonderful things I mentioned before but I think true happiness is reached when you can “Hold Your Peace” even when hard circumstances surround you. My personal way to do this is staying connected to God.
