Today we’d like to introduce you to Elise Greganti.
Hi Elise, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started baking and decorating cakes at 13 years old through a year-long school program in Southern California called PHD (Project Heart’s Desire). During that year, I learned everything from basic baking techniques to decorating a four-tier wedding cake with a fountain in the center. From the beginning, I was drawn not only to baking itself, but to the artistry and storytelling behind it.
I’ve also always been deeply inspired by the macabre, mystical, and spooky aesthetics that now influence my brand. After school, I went straight into professional cake decorating, starting in a supermarket bakery and eventually working my way up to head decorator and bakery manager. Later, I transitioned into more elevated dining environments, where I learned the operational side of running bakeries and cafés while continuing to take custom cake orders independently from home.
As I developed my own spiritual practice, I became increasingly interested in tarot, witchcraft, and the idea of intentional living. Eventually, those passions merged with my baking career, leading me to create Witchy Baker. I describe myself as a kitchen witch, and my goal is to create desserts and experiences that help people reconnect with food on a more intentional and metaphysical level.
Most recently, I relocated to Nashville to continue building the brand and expand into a new creative community. Long term, I hope to open a brick-and-mortar bakery and café complete with a gift shop, tarot readings, and immersive themed experiences; something that feels equal parts bakery, ritual, and unforgettable experience.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all — especially financially. Building a brand from the ground up is no joke, particularly when you’re trying to create something niche and deeply personal. Baking was always the part that came naturally to me, but running a business requires wearing a lot of hats that didn’t necessarily come instinctively. I’ve had to teach myself everything from website design and bookkeeping to marketing and building a social media presence — and honestly, I’m still learning.
I think one of the biggest challenges has been balancing creativity with the realities of entrepreneurship. There’s a huge difference between being an artist and being the person responsible for every detail behind the scenes. At the same time, those challenges have also pushed me to grow in ways I probably never would have otherwise. Every skill I’ve picked up has helped me shape Witchy Baker into something that feels truly authentic and intentional.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create custom desserts and immersive food experiences through Witchy Baker, blending professional cake artistry with mystical and metaphysical themes. I specialize in custom cakes, tarot card sugar cookies, zodiac-inspired dessert collections, tea blends, and edible “spell kit” style experiences that are designed to feel both visually striking and deeply intentional.
I think what I’m becoming most known for are my tarot card sugar cookies. Each cookie is designed as an edible tarot card experience, often paired with meanings or interactive elements that encourage people to engage with the dessert in a more personal and symbolic way. I love creating food that feels immersive; something that sparks emotion, conversation, curiosity, or nostalgia instead of just being consumed and forgotten.
What sets my work apart is that I approach baking almost like storytelling or ritual work. A lot of my menus are built around intention, symbolism, astrology, and energy. Even down to flavor pairings, I think carefully about how ingredients emotionally and spiritually connect to the themes behind each dessert. I’m not just trying to make something aesthetically beautiful; I want people to feel something when they experience it.
I’m most proud of building a brand that feels genuinely authentic to me. In an industry where trends move quickly, I’ve focused on creating something highly personal and niche rather than trying to fit into what’s already popular. Seeing people connect so strongly to that vision has been incredibly rewarding, especially as I continue building the brand in Nashville.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One thing that might surprise people is that I’m actually a pretty big introvert. Because my brand is so visually bold and expressive, people sometimes assume I’m naturally outgoing all the time, but a lot of my creativity really comes from solitude, observation, and introspection.
I spend a lot of time alone designing concepts, researching symbolism, experimenting with flavors, and building the world behind Witchy Baker. In many ways, the brand has become an extension of the parts of myself that I express more easily through art and storytelling than in everyday conversation. I think that’s also why the work feels so personal and immersive to people. It genuinely comes from a very inward, intentional place.
