Conversations with Hannah Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Brown.

Hi Hannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I first started my career early on as a visual merchandising manager in home furnishings. I loved styling and creating, and I always tried to find interesting angles to shoot photos for final projects. I was obsessed with turning a room into something functional & artful, while simultaneously obsessing over how I would shoot the space.

I worked shortly after for a design firm, learned everything I possibly could about the business itself, and started chipping away at teaching myself programs like Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustrator. I loved designing, but I also fell in love with telling a story with the camera lens.

It was my way of showing the world what I could do; with my own eyes, and my own voice. Fast forward to today, and I now own my own photography & creative business in Nashville where I get to continue sharing my own vision with the world. On my terms.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If it had been a smooth road, I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today. I’ve had plenty of people in the past telling me my ideas were too “out there”, or “not enough”… With that being said, I think the biggest struggle I’ve had is in my relationship with myself.

Being creative is overwhelming; in the best ways and the worst ways. Imposter syndrome hit me hard early in my career, and it can sometimes try to creep back in. But the greatest thing I ever did was go out on my own & pick up that camera. No one, other than myself, is telling me how to capture these moments in time forever. It’s solely me depending on me (and natural light).

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I own a design & creative studio here in Nashville, and we specialize in Interior Photography, Design, & Styling.

We’ve become known for our Interior Design photography, Airbnb photography, and Interior Styling. I’m proudest of how this business has turned into exactly what it was supposed to be.

I never gave it concrete expectations, because there are so many different things I love to do and ways I love to creatively express myself. I love being able to give my clients those really special detail shots- where you can feel the story of the space, see the styling & the light coming in, feel the textures… it’s become one of the biggest selling points of the business. You can tell who shot those photos… that’s such an insane feeling.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love Nashville. I’m from Kentucky, lived in Texas, and am now here in Tennessee and I can firmly tell you; this place feels like home.

Being able to immerse yourself in the city side of Nashville as well as travel 25 minutes and you are out by the lake and immersed in nature… there’s truly nothing but the best of both worlds here. Everyone we’ve ever met here has instantly become family; what more could you ask for?
