Today we’d like to introduce you to James Laster.
Hi James, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began comedy two years ago. As I worked toward mastery, I have learned much about myself and the city I was born in. I hope to bring this journey to my jokes and give a narrative that’s funny as well as insightful.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The learning curves have made the road bumpy. But, that allows for you to make your own way in comedy. A lot of late nights in bars working on material with the hopes to find gold. But, these difficulties season you for bigger days and sets. For example, my identity alongside my perspective makes for the compelling writing but I can’t relate to everyone and it can serve as a harsh reminder. It’s worth it though; Without the rough road you couldn’t have a journey.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a standup comic based in Nashville. My comedy is specialized in the surreal and observational. I’m proud of this distinction as it allow for me to approach reality through imagination so I can ensure a message is being delivered no matter how silly the messenger. I believe this sets me apart in the grand scheme of things.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Your development is not only left up to you but the principles you have along with the team you keep .
