Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Andrews
Hi Jenna , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am from Canada and moved to New York when I was 22 when I was signed to Def Jam as an artist. I was signed there for 7 years and when I left the label I started writing for other artists and since then, i have songs with artists such as, BtS, Drake, Jlo, Noah Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter ect, I also executive produce and vocal produce. I have signed and developped artists such as, Lennon Stella and Zhavia Ward. I moved to Nashville last year and have since then started a new publishing company with my partner Stephen Kirk and we are developing a new artist, Morgan johnston… and have also been writing with a Mickey Guyton for her new album.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road haha, but being in the music business never is.. the struggles are what make the wins so gratifying. The struggle has been having to hear 100 NOs before you might hear one yes.. and just all the anxiety that can come from the pressure it takes to stay in the industry but it has really has been worth it for me, because it has made me a better songwriter and artist.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a songwriter/executive producer/vocal producer and podcast creator and host.
I have always been a believer that the more irons you have in the fire the better off you are.
I truly believe to excel in this business, the less you have to rely on other people the better off you are.
Honestly I am proud of my whole journey, everything is a domino effect and one thing always leads to the next thing.. and I truly feel like that is the blessing.
I started my podcast “the green room talks” because in all the years I have been writing with artists, I have learned there are always things people are going through and sometimes don’t necessarily feel comfortable talking about.. but songwriting gives artists a safe space to talk about whatever is going on in their life and is truly cathartic to express through music, so in my podcast I have real conversations with creatives similar to a writing session but also have a trained therapist join so they are able to give educated advice and I hope that the people listening to the podcast feel some sense of peace by hearing some of what their favorite artists go through in theirs lives, making them feel a little less alone in whatever they might be going through too.. cause really we are all human.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Because I work in the mental health space, I would suggest the Jed Foundation as a resource.. they provide trained therapists for people that are in need.
