Conversations with Jessica Sloane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Sloane.

Jessica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Jessica Sloane creates interesting and beautiful aesthetics as a creative director, event designer, planner, producer and stylist. She has planned destination weddings and events throughout the country and beyond for 15+ years. Her work has been widely published and can be seen in Harper’s Bazaar, Martha Stewart Weddings, BRIDES, Over the Moon, Once Wed, Style Me Pretty, Geraldine, Southern Living, Magnolia Rouge and more. She has previously been named one of the Best Wedding Planners in the country by BRIDES and one of the Top 5 Planners in Tennessee by Wezoree.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Even with years of experience, there’s always something to learn in the event industry! This job requires resilience. You have to be able to think on your feet and problem solve with a team of vendors. Unexpected things always come up — from weather challenges, animals in the wild (for outdoor events), to electricity going out, someone getting sick, rings getting lost, etc. Good planners have learned to handle the curve balls that are thrown their way,. While you can never plan for every single impact, you learn to prepare for what may come. After 15+ years of doing events, I have come across a lot of these situations and have many stories I could tell!

My style and aesthetic have also evolved as I’ve learned to listen to my own creative voice and instinct. As a designer and stylist, I always look at an event both logistically and artfully. I have learned to edit myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Jessica Sloane’s motto is that there is beauty in everything. She is in the business of creating interesting and beautiful aesthetics as a creative director, event planner, designer and stylist.

What makes an experience working with her different than with most is her ability to hold space for her clients. With a background in sociology, she’s honed her skills at assessing client values and creating events that are highly individualized. She is widely known as someone who is able to tell a compelling story through creating interesting spaces — conceptualizing and styling events that resonate with you, the client. She’s described herself as having always “been drawn to finding beauty in everything — even the unexpected.”

Every detail is part of the bigger picture. Jessica’s clients tend to be those who resonate with her passion for artistically transforming a space through sensory and aesthetic experiences. She and her team look for ways to weave in elements that communicate the client’s values; then, execute events from inception to completion — managing all components of design, styling, planning & production.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memories have to do with my dad, who I lost three years ago. He was my person and brought a lot of stability in my life. But one funny memory I have is that I really didn’t like getting sand or dirt in my shoes. I would sit down to empty them before moving on because I have some OCD tendencies! It’s also something that makes me good at my job. I can always see what’s missing or is too much!
