Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordyn Elliott.
Hi Jordyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Sure ! I have been managing about 15 years. I went to school for event management and graduated from Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. I am originally from Ontario Canada and moved here to Nashville in 2020. I started managing at the age of 21 and signed my first band Eleven Past One to their record deal with Warner Music Canada at the age of 23. I also received a gold single with them “ The World is Ours”. I then went on to manage country artist Eric Ethridge and signed him to his record/ publishing deal in 2018 with Anthem Entertainment. I have received two gold singles with Eric “ If you met me first “ and “ California”. I now manage country artist Shaylen ( Nashville Harbor ) and pop artist Karl Michael ( Peer Music )
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it has not always been smooth! I just started finally making income in the last 5-6 years. Before that I was working side jobs to pay my bills while chasing this dream of management. I found it hard to be a female manager since it primarily is a male dominated industry but I worked hard and kept my head down and gained the respect as a manager from my peers.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love artist management. I help artists achieve their goals whether that be signing them to a record or publishing deal, signing to a booking agency or marketing and branding to be relatable to their fans. I act as the liaison for all team members on an artist’s project and I help the artist articulate what they want to say to their audiences and how to showcase the most authentic version of themselves and the most relatable material. I am proud of never giving up on my dream of managing it brought me to a new country and space and I couldn’t imagine a different career. I am proud of the wins : grand ole Opry debuts , gold singles, supporting tours. I think my love and passion for an artist makes me stand out because I am not just here to make money I am here for the love of music. I only take on artists who I truly feel I can give the attention and grow with. I think that is why my artists have been loyal and trusted me with their careers.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Hands on experience ! One of my first jobs was selling merch for a local band. I got to meet agents , promoters and other artists. I also belong to a few organizations in the industry : CCMAs , Women’s business association of Nashville , AFM etc that support and hold events to network with peers. I have been fortunate enough to have met a very talented producer Brian Howes when I first started and he was kind enough to teach me the ropes and walk me through all parts of my journey to get to where I am today. I do think being social and going to shows and venues just to make one introduction can really help when you are trying to get your name out there !
