Conversations with Josh Courson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Courson.

Hi Josh, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I’ve always been a big fan of music, but I guess my music story began when I was around 13 years old. My older sister was starting up her first band and I wanted to be a part of it. When I asked her if I could join, she told me if I learned how to play guitar, she would consider it. So I accepted the challenge and learned how to play guitar by watching YouTube videos and practicing for countless hours every day. I pretty much grew up with her band. As she brought on more experienced musicians, I learned everything that I could from them.

When I was 17, I decided to venture out on my own and I was fortunate to be able to get into most of the places on the local music scene. I traveled around playing and singing everywhere I could and every chance I got. I also picked up song writing around this time. I began writing originals and wrote a lot of songs with Jason Hamor, a songwriter I met out of Nebraska. We became really good friends and are still writing together today. He also introduced me to an artist turned producer, Jason Wyatt, out of Nashville who mentored me and really helped me grow as an artist. From there it has just been a grind. But so far God has blessed me with the opportunity to perform in hundreds of places, for thousands of people and I am grateful for all of it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a difficult road, but I don’t call it work. I feel like playing music and performing is what I am meant to do, so I have invested a lot of myself into my music. It has been challenging at times, but I remember why I am doing it and it makes it all worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you are currently focused on?
I am a singer/songwriter from Macon, GA. Macon has some strong musical influences and I’m honored to be a part of that. While some of my songs reflect on some of my personal experiences and influences, they also speak to the human condition.

My first single release, “Here for the Beer,” debuted on The Bull Backyard Country (94.9 Atlanta and 96.5 Macon FM radio) where it spent four weeks at the #1 spot and nine weeks in the top 3.

I am currently working on a 6-song EP titled “Wrecked This Town” (named after the EP’s signature song) to be released with Vista22 Entertainment. The first song from the EP, “Can’t Stop Loving You,” is dropping April 8, 2022. I’m super excited to share it and the rest of the EP with everybody.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I have learned several lessons. It’s easy to lose yourself in the music industry. I have seen so many friends give up what makes them unique in order to make it. I don’t think success is just how many songs you have on the radio, but how many people you are able to positively impact. I have also learned that music is a tough business.

Fortunately, I have been blessed to work with honest and amazing people, who have helped bring out the best version of myself and my artistry.
