Conversations with Juanes Plascencia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juanes Plascencia.

Hi Juanes , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well, I’m an immigrant in this beautiful country, originally from Degollado, Jalisco Mexico I moved here about 23 years ago with a suitcase full of dreams. I always had the passion to travel, when I used to live in Mexico I used to travel there.

When I came here everything was so different of course the language barrier, different laws and rules but so many things to discover, overall I saw everything well organized and some how welcoming.

Back in 2002 Franklin, TN had small Hispanic community and at High School when you are learning a second language it was very helpful to find someone bilingual.

I used to attend church and got involved in many activities like youth group, the choir, guitar lessons, putting events together and many more activities.

After school I used to work at a tortilla factory which was a lot of fun because we listened to music and been able to communicate in my home language.

I got to attend college in Nashville and traveling at the same time not just in the states sometimes México or different countries.

I have shared my life with lots of volunteer work with my community been part of nonprofit organizations for more than 20 years and I’m very proud of that.

I’m very thankful for what life has give me and I like to inspire others that not everything is work and money.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been very challenging for someone to learn another culture, language but not impossible, my family is been always there, and my faith.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Most of the time I have work in the restaurant industry, in kitchens, management, serving tables, and now days I still do it, combined with my recent job as marketing consultant for a law firm.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I love history books, I like to know how life used to be, I like to watch travel channels, history channels, cooking channels and different podcasts like people moving to a new place and see what they have experienced.
