Conversations with Kaitlyn Johnston & Erin Broxton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Johnston & Erin Broxton. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Kaitlyn started CHARMMusic in 2016 as a way for her & her friends to get to photograph bigger shows and progress further into the music industry. When COVID-19 hit, she was forced to shut down the online publication due to expenses and the music industry as a whole being on pause.

In August 2022, Kaitlyn & Erin decided that they should bring it back & since then it’s grown to be bigger than ever.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It truly has been a pretty smooth road running this! COVID was definitely a bit of a struggle to get around but that was something that made life hard for every single person, so it was expected to affect a small organization such as CHARM.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Kaitlyn: I’m a full-time freelance photographer & one of the co-owners of CHARMMusic on the side! Pre-COVID I worked full-time in music, doing the whole touring thing and working the festival circuit but since COVID, I’ve extended my services to include weddings, portraits, and events outside of music as well. I’ve been doing this for somewhere around 18 years now and I feel like my love for what I’m doing really shows through every single photo I take and helps set me apart from other photographers within both the music industry & also just the photography industry as a whole!

Erin: I’m a music photographer with a focus on rock and pop genres and co-owner of CHARMMusic. I’m most proud of the way that Kaitlyn & I have grown the CHARM team over the last 6 months since bringing it back and how my own photography has improved in that time as well. The thing that sets me apart from other people in this industry is the time and effort that I put into all of my work, whether photographing a show or writing a review.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like most about Nashville is how the city was founded on music & how integrated that is into the culture.

What I like least about Nashville is the broadway bar culture & the traffic.
