Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Kennedy
Hi Kara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey has always been centered on storytelling and connection. I began my career in public relations, working with a diverse range of clients across industries like tourism, higher education, and retail. Along the way, I honed my expertise in social media, content marketing, and influencer strategy, helping brands build authentic relationships with their audiences.
In 2017, I launched Inspired Southerner, an online magazine celebrating the unique culture and stories of the South. Then, in 2019, I moved to Nashville to take a role in corporate communications, a step that allowed me to expand my skills in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. The experience deepened my understanding of brand strategy and storytelling on a larger scale.
Scottish Terriers have been a constant in my life for over 20 years, and more recently, my Scottie, Frankie, has become a wonderful addition to my story. With his lineage tied to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s beloved Scottie, Fala, Frankie has entered the influencer world, promoting brands like The Honest Kitchen. He’s a daily reminder that creativity and connection can come in all forms.
Moving to Nashville and embracing new opportunities has been a defining chapter in my journey, blending my passions for storytelling, strategy, and community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but each challenge has brought valuable lessons. Moving to Nashville in 2019 for a corporate communications role was an exciting step, but when the pandemic hit, I was laid off, like so many others. It was a difficult time, filled with uncertainty, but it also became a turning point. I had to adapt quickly, reassess my career path, and lean into my skills to find new opportunities.
I was laid off again in September 2024 as a result of a company-wide restructuring. Being laid off from two positions in a short span has added to the challenges. However, these experiences taught me resilience and the importance of staying focused on my passions. I poured my energy into expanding and building my personal brand and exploring new ways to connect with audiences through Frankie using my PR, social media strategy, and storytelling skills.
Through it all, my Scottish Terriers have been a source of comfort and inspiration. Frankie has been a source of comfort and healing, helping me navigate the loss of my mom two years ago with his unwavering companionship and playful spirit. His playful antics and charming spirit have been an added joy to my life.
While the road has had its bumps, each twist and turn has shaped me into the person I am today—more adaptable, determined, and passionate about the work I do.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a storyteller at heart, and my work is all about helping brands connect with their audiences in meaningful ways. I specialize in public relations, social media strategy, content marketing, and influencer partnerships. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with clients across industries like tourism, higher education, retail, and small businesses, crafting campaigns that inspire loyalty and elevate their brands.
What I’m most proud of is the impact I’ve made through storytelling. One of my favorite projects was leading PR efforts for a state tourism department’s Garden & Gun Sunday Supper event. It was an incredible opportunity to showcase the state’s award-winning chefs and mixologists while creating a memorable experience for attendees.
What sets me apart is my ability to build authentic connections and find creative ways to tell a brand’s story. Whether it’s managing an influencer program, creating compelling social media strategies, or representing a brand at a high-profile event, I thrive on bringing ideas to life in ways that resonate.
Beyond my professional work, I’m passionate about being involved in my community. Whether it’s volunteering for local events like the Heritage Foundation of Williamson County’s events or Franklin’s 5 Points Christmas Market, I find joy in contributing to initiatives that make a difference.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If there’s one thing I’d like to share, it’s that I’m driven by a compassion for making connections, building relationships, and sharing stories that matter. Whether it’s through my work in PR, my online magazine, Inspired Southerner, or my community involvement, my goal is always to create meaningful experiences that inspire and uplift others.
Living in Nashville has provided so many opportunities to connect with amazing people and initiatives. I’ve found joy in supporting causes that make a difference in the community. These connections remind me of the power of collaboration and the importance of being present in the moments that matter.
Life’s journey isn’t always linear, but the experiences and relationships we cultivate along the way shape who we are. Embrace the process, lead with compassion, and never stop sharing your story—you never know whose life it might touch.
