Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Baugh.
Hi Kathleen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Nashville and raised in Franklin, TN. Graduating college, I got my BSN in nursing. I began working in an ER which was my dream job. I absolutely loved helping others in such a critical time of need! After a few years, I decided to try travel nursing. Travel has always been a passion of mine! I also wanted to experience living in different cities, because I knew I wanted to stay around Nashville once I decided to start a family. Through travel nursing, I found my wonderful husband, John, while in San Diego. We had quite a whirlwind romance and decided to move back to Tennessee together. John is a mortgage lender and that is how I got my start in real estate. We bought our first home together and I continued working as a nurse.
After we got married, I decided I would like to change career paths. John encouraged me to try real estate. I have now been a Realtor for 4 1/2 years! I began working alongside my mother (who was also encouraged to get her real estate license by my husband). When my business started thriving, my mother decided to retire her license and I moved to my new brokerage with my broker, Lisa Landyn, who was there, in the beginning, helping me get started in this career! I have absolutely loved it, and I am so thankful to be where I am today!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Initially, I thought I would get into the real estate business part-time because it wasn’t ever a career I had even thought about. John had been doing mortgages for 20+ years, and when I wasn’t sure what to do after nursing, he was the one who thought I could do well as a Realtor.
It has been really fun, and actually more similar to nursing than I thought. You are still helping people with a huge life change, and I really enjoy guiding people through the process of home buying!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Realtor! I love helping people buy their first homes! That is where I feel I shine! I enjoy being there to take as much stress out of the transaction as possible.
Buying your first home is one of the most stressful life events, and I try my hardest to make it the best experience possible! I pride myself on my communication with my clients, and I try and be as available as possible to them. In this business, you find that communication is huge!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Know that there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work that most people don’t even realize you are doing and that you will learn something new with every transaction. Surround yourself with a brokerage of agents who want to help you learn, and that will set you up for great success!
