Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayce Laine.
Hi Kayce, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a musician, songwriter and Certified Sound and Crystal Healer. For a bit of my backstory, I began singing with my dad who is a professional musician when I was around 6 years old and ultimately began playing music on my own as soon as I was able to drive myself to gigs. I majored in music at the University of Virginia and after graduating, moved to Brooklyn where I played in a number of different bands. During my time in Brooklyn, I also self-produced and released my first EP, “Lucid”, and began performing as a one-woman band playing synths, electric guitar, drum pad, and Ableton Live. In 2015, a music project brought me to Nashville where I connected with producer and engineer Tim Brennan. He and I decided to make a record soon after meeting and *accidentally* fell in love during that process. As a result, I relocated to Nashville in 2016 where Brennan and I have continued to work on music together – both for myself and other artists. My debut alt-pop LP, “wake up, dreamer” will be out this fall, and you can find my first single “another side” on all platforms!
In addition to writing and recording music, I am also a Certified Sound Healer, Crystal Healer, and Reiki Practitioner. Through this, I facilitate sound baths and work with clients one-on-one to help them improve their overall mental, physical and emotional well-being. I focus much of my work on other musicians and facilitate sound baths and healing sessions at songwriting retreats, music venues, and recording studios to help ease anxiety and optimize creative flow.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not! I have been extremely lucky in my path, however, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that. Soon after moving to Nashville, I began working as a publicist for Triple 7 PR. While this work was wonderful and gave me a whole new perspective on and skillset within the entertainment industry, it made it harder for me to get creative. However, it was because of that difficulty that I began exploring ways to help with my creative block that lead me to sound healing and other vibrational healing techniques. The new record, “wake up, dreamer” also took MANY years longer than Tim or I originally planned or intended. For the first couple of years, this was cause for much frustration, stress, questioning what I was doing with my life – you know, all of those fun things! At the same time though, it forced me to discover new passions and ways of expressing myself. Now, I am able to do the fulfilling work I do with my sound healing business, and also has helped my relationship with my own music. I am less attached to the outcomes associated with releasing this upcoming new record, which has allowed me to enjoy the process much more.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My primary work these days comes from my Sound Healing business which was not something I necessarily planned on doing – I’m pretty sure I had never even heard of a sound bath until my late 20s! However, it’s been the most incredible path I could’ve ever taken and I am grateful every day that I’ve been able to figure out how to make it a sustainable business for myself. As I’ve mentioned, I am a Certified Sound Healer, Certified Crystal Healer, and Reiki Practitioner. While much of the work I do revolves around sound healing, my private 1-1 sessions also involve crystals and reiki for a really wonderful trifecta of vibrational healing energy for my clients. Additionally, I am a new distributor for Crystal Tones, a crystal singing bowl manufacturer that makes the most gorgeous looking and sounding bowls infused with different precious metals, gemstones, and other sacred materials. Connecting people with their own sound healing instruments has been so fun and fulfilling already!
Lastly, Tim and I also make a few records a year with different artists based in Nashville and beyond – ranging from indie rock to pop to country and I have a handful of private piano students who make my life complete! I specialize in working with other musicians who are interested in learning music theory and piano as a way to supplement their songwriting.
All of that said, I am most proud of this new record, “wake up, dreamer” – It has been such a labor of love from myself and my partner and I truly believe that all of the time and energy that we put into it shows in the quality of the music and production. We recently signed a non-exclusive licensing deal with a local Nashville licensing and publishing company, Anacrusis, and that alone has been a dream come true! No matter what happens with this record, I am honestly just so grateful for the hard work that we put into creating it and now having a piece of art that we can share with our family and children to come.
What’s next?
These days I’m really trying to approach my future plans with an open heart and open mind. I couldn’t be more excited to release this new record and it would be great to get some traction with it as far as radio airplay, streams, and placements. However, for now, I am really just enjoying the present and all of the gifts currently in my life. I am an Associate Tutor for the Sound Healing Academy and hope to teach some workshops this year as well as packing up my bowl babies to bring some sound heals in other markets in the US. Other than that, I am excited for a few songwriting projects I am involved in and am looking forward to spending more time in the studio and working on my next album.
