Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Huddleston.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Kayla and I am a Nashville native, born and raised. I was raised in a house on the East side of Nashville, referred to as “Out East”. I come from humble beginnings and I would like to think that I was raised with a good balance of love as well as survival. I have always been a girly girl and attracted to feminine things. From the age of three I always kept a hand bag or purse to carry shades and/or lip gloss. I’ve lived on every side of town except South Nashville and I grew up pretty well rounded.
I graduated High School from Pearl Cohn Magnet High School where I was on the Majorette and Flag team. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue a Sociology degree at Clark Atlanta University. My last year I moved back home to Nashville, Tn and transferred to Fisk University. I graduated from Fisk Cum Laude with a lifetime induction into the International Sociololgical Honor Society. I began my professional work working within grants and contracts. Today, I am a mother to a handsome son and still pursuing my dreams. I have a passion for Beauty and I am the founder of my own beauty brand : Kay Hud Beauty, where I offer lash clusters and other beauty services.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My life has not been peaches and creme but I have been so blessed along the way. My biggest health challenge that I have overcame was beating cancer. After I gave birth to my son I noticed that a lump had formed in my neck and it was causing me to have trouble breathing. Every week it would grow bigger until I finally went to see a specialist about it.
They informed me that I had goiters (tumors) the size of softballs on my neck. They also told me that eventually my windpipes could be crushed and I wouldn’t be able to breathe. After numerous appointments and three biopsies I finally agreed to have my thyroid removed and tested at the cellular level. Once my thyroid was surgically removed and sent for testing it came back that the tumors were indeed cancerous. I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer at the age of 23. Because the tumors were removed and the cancer had not spread I was considered cancer free.
Now, I have to take thyroid replacement pills everyday because my thyroid is gone. It took me years to get my strength and energy back to normal. I lost myself after having cancer and I fell into depression. Most days I was extremely tired and didn’t feel like my normal self.
After I beat cancer, I took my health seriously and took my life back.
I am so grateful for health and lifestyle changes and I owe this success to God.

I am currently a beauty professional, I offer lash clusters and I started doing lashes 1o years ago in college. I am known for always being stylish and resourceful. I am usually the go to girl when my friends or family need help with styling or hair style ideas. I enjoy mastering how to do my own lashes, hair, skincare and make-up. I am also a plus size model and I enjoy modeling for designers and doing photoshoots.
I love to make women feel comfortable and I love adding to their beauty. I also make sure to bring my faith into my businiess. I pray for my clients, I pray before touching them and I listen to them and I deeply care about the type of experience they want and need.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have had so much help and support along the way. My mother Pamela is one of my biggest cheerleaders and is always in my corner. She is a big reason I am the woman I am today, she has guided me and nurtured me into a capable and loving, grown woman. My mother has also been a great help with my son. She is so loving and my biggest goal is to become financially stable enough to support her dreams and allow her live a life where she is free to do as she pleases daily.
